Variant Changes to Dp2E

Greetings everyone and welcome to another Gods unchained post. This one isn't the longest post in the world, but it is important for the long term economy and earning potential in this title. As the image below tells us (this announcement was mostly done in discord as far as I am aware) the 1/1 variants are now worth a 25 times what a diamond card is worth and apply a blanket modifier to you deck for being played. This is a SERIOUS boost that exponentially stacks if you also have more than one variant in a deck.

Longterm Goalpost Movement

While currently in the short term this is a reward boost intended for the more whaley spenders in the ecosysytem it does also effectively add another rarity of print that will eventually have more weight in the dp2e structure be towards mythics/variants than potentially intended. An easy short term solve for this is to allow the blanket bonuses to not stack between multiple variants exponentially. These changes have been implemented in lieu of collection rewards or any sort of other reward structure to reward whale spending. This does however feel like moving the goalpost again for the existing/former whales in the ecosystem. Mythics/variants are held by only a few individuals who are stacking them and using them in the same decks together to maximize earnings. Personally I know most of the people who own one, and they are all nice people who really want to support the game and see it succeed (and frankly the amount they are earning are pennies compared to what they have spent so far).

It just should be kept in mind that even THIS goalpost can move further down the line eventually to "true mythics" with a 125x multiplier being the only way to scrape gods together at this game (very far down the road mind you). It really depends on playerbase numbers and if the variants all keep going to the same locations. There are already a few dozen printed and the numbers will continue to rise with each set/event. HOWEVER, keep in mind this is an absolute non-issue compared to literally everything in the game being down and is mostly just a bit of a "bottle post" to try and put something to the page without going into a full on rant about how fucked the state of the game is. I'm showing restraint for the time being (you're welcome GU team). Hell in the short term it IS a good thing, whales feel happy with their variants and that is definitely a worthy pursuit.

Talking Tidbits: At the press of a button

I would say the one thing this made me realize is that everything in this game can and will be changed at the push of a button. The same way the initial dp2e update came into being there is a chance that any other crazy thing can happen. Hence why I am more focused on just "having the cards I've always wanted" instead of trying to keep chasing the dragon. I know I've been bullshitting about this in discord and have actually had various constructive talks about this with Yoink and lolerino etc., and it truly is a nuanced issue. I understand the feeling of "wanting the variants to be worth", but they shouldn't be a substitute for collection rewards (that don't even have to be necessarily $GODS). It just would be nice to have there be a reason to own cards across the board instead of pigeonholing yourself farther and farther into 1 god, 1 archtype, 1 deck, 1 prison for life. I actually picked up some whacky diamond cards to hash together my 3rd diamond deck AND have figured out how to actually scholar them out. Yes I'm finally free, or close to it. I will likely have to pick one shiney deck between the 3 gods, but honestly it might be nice to play none of them and just sit on my ass earning passive while I get back to tinkering with jank and cooking in the kitchen. It's been maybe a year of this shine prison I've voluntarily locked myself in, maybe a bit less? Regardless it's time for a change of pace, I've been antsy for god damn months. Anyways thanks for reading everyone, not much has happened here just sortof putting some thoughts to paper and foreshadowing some cool content coming down the line here.
