Rooting through Roots of Ruin

Greetings everyone, a lot has happened in Gods Unchained since last we've posted. This time it's not just a new battlepass adding to the fold. This time a whole new set has arrived that introduces a completely new tribe to the game, adds various additional legendaries to all domains, and further expands the new(ish) favor archtype for light. I did not do a tierlist for this set because most of the set requires one legendary relic card to function effectively. It would've been a very weird thing to tierlist when thinking about cards in a vacuum etc. so I've forgone it this time. Overall this is a good looking set, and you can check out further info about it here. To view a full list of the cards this miniset has to offer click here

Everborn Tribal Emergence

This set brings the everborns into the fray, the tribe originate deep within the planet and has come to the surface after a seal was broken keeping them lurking beneath the surface. The everborns are a really strong tribe with 98 percent neutral cards and tech, and it's all strong enough and slots into every god pretty effectively. The cards all revolve around sporophytes which (for the most part) are summoned via the broken seal relic. The requirements for the cards are typically removing the sporophytes from your void or sacrificing them on the board. The tribal is really strong and fits in every god pretty well, the ones with the least synergy are light and deception (but these domains still work with the everborn package, it's just that
strong).

Creative, Strong, Fresh : A good set overall

Outside of the everborn tribe and the decks available with it in each domain (there will be an in depth post on it later diving into each domain and potentially video content aswell), there are a plethora of interesting cards that bolster the ranks of existing and newer archtypes like favor light. Below are the mythic variants (a one of one version of the legendary cards) for the legendaries from this set, which are actually very aesthetic this time around.

Of these newer cards (mythic variants pictured above) a few particularly noteworthy ones come to mind. Heliora is an outright strong card with an effect that benefits most aggro war decks, The new academy card allows for a plethora of lines for mage and bolsters the structure and "outside of domain" spell archtype quite nicely. The new volkaaz is going to be something that Bitter Endings pulls via Bitter Endings, but outside of that it is a fair finisher for nethers. The new Argus card is something that gives blessed cards some value, but in my opinion this probably isn't enough to enable the archtype on it's own. Favor getting revisited is nice as it's one of GU's only unique mechanics

Where does it go from here? More everborn?

Some of you might be asking at this point, "where does the meta go from here'? And quite honestly I couldn't tell you, the only thing I can assure is that more everborns will be printed in the future. no tribe remains unprinted forever. I would also suspect we are going to see more "favor light" cards and "chaos mage (spells outside of native domain)" cards, but aside from that the future is wild and anything could happen.

Talking Tidbits: Balance Patch

Now that they've balanced the cards a bit with these most recent balance patchs there are various cards in everborn that are no longer neutral (thank god), but the whole archtype is still usable and strong for all gods. I dislike the design decision behind having all domains that use this archtype require running "The Broken Seal" and think it's going to cause a design funnel when it comes to the tribe, that is unless they print more generators I suppose. I will be going into each everborn card, it's function, and how it works in it's domain archtype in a few followup posts. This set is creative and fresh, despite my small gripes. Powerlevel aside, this set is fun and makes GU feel fresh again. It's been a really long time since it's felt that way and I'm excited to see what's next. If you've been watching me on twitch you've been seeing me try out the everborn package with almost every god so far (deception excluded), and I have to say they are quite a bit of fun to play and I rarely see them outside of mythic.

Thanks for reading, liking, commenting, and not smashing your computer in disgust. I'll be seeing you all in Rucos rocking some Shiney atlanteans or trying out these new everborn archtypes.
