It was her calling, her duty and her aspiration. It was unchangeable and made her happy but sad as well. She could heal everything and practically anything. Her tender attitude existed just to help and heal. Come over and over again, her mother would still make her a dealer and though she wouldn't change it for any reason, the death took a toll on her happiness and her peaceful life.
The year the virus conquered the Lodge county was the worst year for the people and her. Several children contracted it, leaving them with hot skin and red eyes. Adults couldn't leave the comfort of their home for the fear of having the sun scorch their already hot skin. Different reason were said to be the cause of the fire virus. Some said it was a curse, others said it was a punishment and the rest said it was trial from the devil but no one knew the cure.
She tried and tried, tested and tended but to no avail. The people placed their trust in her and she disappointed them. Nothing could cure them, nothing even the good chosen tender could tend to the people. But the day she got a clue to the treatment was the day of happiness for her. She felt proud of herself and showed it as well. Even though she hasn't found the cure, she was still pleased with herself. Scientists all around couldn't find a cure and a lowly tender could. It was a thing to be proud of and that got into her head.
She refused to say anything about her clue to scientists and rejected the help offered by doctors. She was determined to get it done by herself and live up to her mother's name. She became an individualist who valued her privacy and saw people as haters.
A year later, she was still in her journey of producing the cure and there was no improvement. The virus affected everyone and their economy but she was still interested in keeping the clue to herself. People pleaded just to get the cure and put an end to their misery but she refused to listen. Getting the praise for herself was all for she thought of.
Over time, the virus became worse. People could barely walk as the fire burned their bones and tears became a common occurrence. Seeing Healey wasn't willing to help, the king sent his daughters to pressure her and also assist her. Lilah, Laura and Linda were the princess of Lodge county but they each had different dreams. Lilah, the oldest, was a soldier. She lived her life for the people though she was a princess.
Laura, the middle daughter and favourite daughter of the king, loved the princess life and was the hope of the county. She was to be the leader of the county and marry a king.
Linda, on the other hand, wanted to be a tender. Healey was her role model and no matter what she was told, she did not doubt a second whatever they said about Healey.
The day they met with Healey, her real attitude was revealed. She was smart and refused to let out the cure. All effort to make her do so willfully failed.
Healey decided to read more accounts of how her mother's procedure resulted in the cure at her disposal. She found out that something was missing and that could perfect the cure that Lodge county needed. While the Princess was busy seeking her to expose her little secret, Healey was busy cooking her way through the biggest invention in medicine.
Make me a deal and you'd get all that you desire.
Healey was heard saying to Linda in company Layla. She was near victory. The only way to make the palace announce her as the Duke per medical discovery was her next move.
Name what you desire in Lodge county and it will be all yours.
Linda responded.
Healey led the way and they arrived at the hilly virgin hands that entered Orion valley, the home of untapped gold in the crust.
King Musk accepted all that Healey desired, so far the cure worked.
In the morning of the trial, all citizens gathered at the courtyard. They were so expectant. Everyone needed the cure. Solemnly, they prayed in their heart that the therapy works this time.
Some came with empty containers to take the medication. No one knew the strategy he was going to use since she had no staff to assist her in administering the researched drugs in the infected patients. .
Healey came to the podium like some kind of priestess. She spoke to the people in a tender voice. Like someone who was reading a political manifesto. Her last word was:
This Is the continuum of my mother's work.
Then, she blew a white substance into the atmosphere. Everyone in the county inhaled it and sneezed. That was all they needed to cure the virus.
Healey has completed what seemed impossible for over three decades. She has become the virologist of the moment. The King organized a feast for her for the feat and everyone celebrated her.
This is a good story, @mrenglish. We have the most noble and most base human motivation revealed at the same time. The daughter works to continue the legacy of the mother. And yet, as a healer she holds back the cure until she gets what she wants.
Very well told, @mrenglish. Thank you
This is a good and interesting story. I love motivational stories like this.
@mrenglish Healey finally found a cure to eliminate the virus, I wish there was a scientist like this in our real world too who could give us permanent freedom from Corona, right now we are considering ourselves safe only by applying vaccines. But don't know what will happen in future.
Your writing style is different but always appreciated.
Hello @mrenglish. Your story is very interesting because although the motives of may be noble you also reveal that selfish side that makes her provide the cure in exchange for something. Very good.
An interesting story though I'm not sure she deserved to be celebrated. Although she came through in the end, it was hardly for the right reasons.
