Weekends have always provided me with a much-needed break from the hectic routine of teaching and the never-ending duties of daily life. But getting to spend it with my partner, Arjay, makes it even more special. Last weekend was one of those unforgettable but straightforward moments we spent together—an opportunity to unwind, reconnect, and restart while chasing the sunset and indulging in our favorite comfort foods.
The week had been hectic, with coursework, deadlines, and the usual rush that left me fatigued. Arjay seemed to sense it and suggested that we go outside for a walk and rest. Just the two of us, excellent cuisine, and the tranquil embrace of nature—no complicated planning, no extravagant costs.
We went in the late afternoon, the best time of day to watch the sun just before it sets. Sunsets have a special allure; they serve as a poignant reminder that morning is inevitable and that endings can be beautiful. I felt a sense of tranquility as we sat side by side. I discovered that occasionally resting does not require a long trip. It could be as easy as spending time with someone who makes you feel safe and loved.
Of course, we couldn't have a small journey without our favorite foods: shawarma rice and fries. It has become our favorite comfort food, making us joyful every time. Stories and laughter flowed effortlessly with each bite. We talked about everything and nothing at the same time—the types of conversations that don't have to be deep but are nevertheless extremely significant. We relished life's simple joys by eating together and watching the subtle color changes in the sky.
I was reminded at that point how important it is to take a moment to reflect and start anew, not only for myself but also for our relationship. Our lives may become so chaotic that we fail to deepen our relationships with those we care about. I sensed that we reignited our relationship that weekend in ways that words cannot convey.
I was filled with gratitude as the sun set, leaving pink and orange striations in the sky. I'm grateful for Arjay's presence, the tranquility of the evening, and the reminder that love is formed in these small, intentional moments.
We came home that evening feeling lighter, more connected, and revitalized. Although it wasn't the most luxurious date, it was exactly what we needed to decompress, unwind, and begin over as a couple. A sunset, a plate of fries and shawarma rice, and the company of the person who makes every weekend seem like home are sometimes all that is needed.
The essence of having a partner by your side on a weekend is not just about relaxation, but about shared peace. It's the simple joy of slowing down together, leaving behind the week's noise, and finding comfort in each other's presence. A partner who accompanies you reminds you that rest feels lighter, moments feel warmer, and life feels sweeter when shared.
