Generousity - A Blessing and a Burden

I have always known that I am a generous person. This is not just something I believe or think of myself, but it is something I have consistently heard from different people throughout my life. I am not sure if this generosity is an innate part of who I am or something I learned from my dad. All I know is that, for as long as I can remember, generosity has been one of my characteristics.

From a very young age, I have always found joy in giving to others. I remember how I would willingly give all my food to different classmates who did not bring lunch to school. Whenever my dad gave me money to buy snacks during lunch at school, sometimes I would give part of it to beggars on the street without hesitation. Sometimes, I would take my friends to the school shop and buy them chocolates or sweets, and I did not need a reason to give it; it simply felt good and made me so happy. My generosity is not just limited to giving material things; I give my time, resources, and/or kindness.

Even now, as an adult, my generosity has not wavered nor diminished. I still find joy in helping others and being there for people when they need me. However, sometimes I wish I was selfish, and I think about just myself, even if it is just for a little moment. To an extent, I have come to realize that being generous is not always easy; people get to take your generosity for granted, most especially people you go all out for and make sure they are okay. Some people even see your generosity as something they are entitled to rather than appreciating your efforts and sacrifice.

I do not want to stop being generous, but sometimes I feel the need to protect myself from being taken advantage of.

But despite everything i will still remain a generous person because it is who i am, i love to help others wven when it's not convenient for me.

THANK YOU FOR READING TO THE END 🤗

Excellent reflection on generosity, and from what you write, you have truly been a generous person. But as you say, sometimes people tend to take advantage of people like you, but the good thing is that you are clear about that and know that when that happens, you have to set your boundaries.

Besides, it's not bad to pamper yourself and take some time for yourself every now and then. Don't be afraid to do so. My best wishes to you, beautiful, with your lovely smile!

With the passion you have for giving and helping others, I believe it is a genetic trait passed down from your parents of grandparents because generosity is not learned. It is not a skill, it is a habit that builds over time to form a culture and if this habit is not inherent in the home, there's no way you would love practicing from childhood til now.

Keep being you. You will be honoured and celebrated when it matters most.

Happy weekend

You are very kind. But sometimes being generous people take it for granted. So, you have to build walls for yourself. It's okay to give but you have to have limitations. I admire you a lot. Thanks for sharing.
