If I was Starving to Death, I Will Choose an Empty Stomach Over Cannibalism

When faced with extreme survival situations, people often wonder what choices they would make to stay alive one of the most hunting questions is whether someone would turn to canabalism if they were starving to death. Back in human history there was a time when mothers ate their babies to survive during a critical time of famine. For me, the answer is simple: I would rather starve to death. While the will to survive is powerful, I believe there are lines that, once crossed, change you forever. First, there is the moral and psychological weight of the act. Cannibalism is not simply eating food; it's consuming another human being, someone who once had thoughts, feelings, and a life. Naturally human meat isn't part of the human food chain. Even if the person is dead, the act still carries an emotional and mental toll. It's not a simple a survival tactic- it's a decision that can scar your conscience forever. Surviving at the cost of your humanity leaves wounds that may never heal. You might escape starvation, but you cannot escape the memory of what you did.

Another important reason is dignity and self-respect. Hunger strips away comfort, energy and clarity, but it does not have to strup away principles. Starving is painful and terrifying, but it can also be a final act of integrity. Choosing to die with my values intact can be more meaningful than living with guilt. We are not only creatures of instinct, we are also guided by morals, culture, and personal boundaries. For me, dying hungry is a way of holding onto that last piece of humanity, even in the face of death.

Health risks also make cannibalism a dangerous choice. Human flesh is not meant to be consumed by other humans. There are diseases, parasites, and other related illnesses that can be transmitted through human tissue. Eating another person might not only fail to save your life but could make death quicker or more painful. In a desperate moment, it may seem like a solution, but it could be an even faster route to suffering.

Finally life is more than just survival. We all die eventually; the question is how we live and how we choose to leave the world. Survival at any cost might keep the body alive, but what about the mind and soul? Choosing starvation over cannibalism is not about giving up, it's about recognising that some things matter more than a few extra days. Sometimes, the way we face the end defines us more than how long we can prolong it.

So yes, I would starve to death. Not because I am brave or because I want to die, but because living by eating another human being would feel like losing myself. And if survival means losing who I am, then it isn't survival at all.

Yes, I'm with you. I'd like to think I would have the willpower to stick with an empty stomach and die before resortin to cannibalism!

Facts! I feel the same way. I'd like to believe I'd hold on and rather go hungry than go that far. It's tough, but some things are just a hard no

As long as you don’t have the mind of surviving at all cost there is a great chance to overcome the temptation of cannibalism.

When people are in dire situations they often don’t think straight anymore.

Yeah that's true. When survival instincts kick in, it's easy to lose your cool and just think about staying alive. It really takes a strong mindset to stay firm and not give in, even when things get crazy

That’s right. It’s scary what we can do sometimes when we don’t tame our demons.

I think this is a hard question. Even if we can control our emotions and still choose to avoid human flesh, but there are times, that when you are already hungry like you might act without really thinking much and just to do opposite of what want. I will also not choose cannibalism but can we really avoid it if our body is acting on instinct 🤔

I get you, hunger can make people do wild things without thinking, so it's hard to know how anyone would act. Sticking to the choice of not eating at human flesh would definitely test one's self-control big time
