Beware of Phishing Attacks: CRM Company HubSpot Hack Lead to Data Breach of Many Major Crypto Firms

In an attempt to target a wider crypto stakeholders, hackers breached customer relationship management (CRM) firm HubSpot stealing data of several clients like Circle, BlockFi, Pantera Capital, NYDIG, Swan Bitcoin and others.

HubSpot confirmed the hack, after several of its client crypto companies started informing their customers of the breach. The affected companies are of view that their internal systems were not affected and customers funds are secure. Only the personal information of customers like names, email addresses and mailing addresses were stolen by hackers.

The user funds may be secure(at least for now), but all the affected companies are still informing their customers about the breach to have cover from legal repercussions in case of any incident in future.

The data stolen may include personal information only and private keys are secure, but that data alone is valuable. Personal information data can be sold on dark web to malicious actors to be used for further hacks and phishing attempts.

It has been estimated that 95% of the cyber attacks originate from phishing attacks. And with that much data of crypto customers out in the open, a new cycle of phishing may start soon.

It is still not knows how many HubSpot client companies were affected by the breach. But better be safer than sorry. First, thing is to do is change passwords/keys of your accounts as hackers can use your stolen personal data to make a guess. Second, increase your guard for any phishing emails.
