Onboarding and Retention of Users on Web3: Key Areas to Consider

Do We Need To Keep People In Web3? was the title of the Threadcast with @breads where we robustly discussed how why new users do not stay on web3 after the initial onboarding hype as well as ways that true web3 projects can onboard and retain new users. This Community Townhall meeting scheduled for November 1st, 2023 at 11am EST will again build on onboarding , retention and community building on web3. Getting to bring on eight (8) outstanding community/dapp leaders in the web3 space to talk on the townhall shows again how important the topic of onboarding and retention of new users is. The Need for Onboarding and Retention of Users on Web3

Certainly, the onboarding and retention of users on web3 projects is a challenging one owing to the fact that web3 is an innovation that is yet to be fully understood by the masses - a major shift from the known. There is the burden for users to decide to be fully responsible for everything that happens with their data and social accounts and not many are willing to take this responsibility. That notwithstanding, onboarding and retention of users in web3 projects is a crucial components of web3 projects that must be well designed and executed.

Web3 is beyond cryptocurrency. The money and earning component of web3 has been overemphasized and many are seeing it as an exit scheme or scam or a place to make quick cash. But web3 is by better of. many are building stuffs that would last and are solving real-time problems. Some projects on Hive are making economic and social impacts on humanity. Think of @hive.ghana's Borehole project by @mcsamm m and @collinz. Their little efforts are creating massive results. Think of the a 10x scale of the project through a standard and known corporate institution like USAID on Hive blockchain! The outcomes would would be massive.

Key Areas to Consider

1. User Education

Are web3 projects prioritizing user education? Blockchain technology should be aught and understood. How deliberate are web3 projects partnering with educational institutions to educate learners on block chain technology and the growing use cases? Are we providing clear educational resources and tutorials that is essential for effective onboarding?

2. Onboarding Incentives and Rewards

There must always be the motivation to invite another user to join a network. Think of multi-level marketing. Think of referral systems. It would work better on web3 due to the transparency and immutability feature of the blockchain. It would be easier to get an influencer from web2 to web3 where there is a clear cut referral design. NFT badges can be a great onboarding incentive and reward option.

3. User Feedback

How do we prioritize user feedback? Are we aware that web3 promises users ownership and that means that their voices count in the development tweaks of the project? Are there design procedure for users to lodge their feedback and these feedbacks evaluated for wide acceptability? Continuously gathering and acting on user feedback is essential for improving the onboarding and user experience.

4. Long-Term Value and Sustainability Roadmap

Many web3 projects started blossoming and folded up in a bit because there were no clear designs for the future. Some were just designed for the bulls and hype system and not foe the bear. Thanks to some projects that are thriving on Hive through the bear run. Do you remember something as lofty as Fundition? What about DSound, Hivver and others? Focusing on creating long-term value for users beyond short-term incentives is key to retaining them in web3 projects. This requires a roadmap that should be tested. There should be a business plan in place that makes the project feed itself on the long run. Many web3 projects are lacking this.

Above is the roll call of lead speakers expected in the biggest Hive -related virtual community convergence where project growth will be discussed and feedbacks received from the community. This is really a renaissance in the history of the hive blockchain. Unlike Hivefest, this Town Hall will be a down to earth show where a strong synergy between Hive dapps and communities would be built for the future of the blockchain's growth and expansion. The threadcast engagement for that show should hit 2k minimum and should the optimum publicity be given , we should have at least 1k users in attendance.

There are a few questions already on my pad that would require answers during the show from the community/dapp leaders. These questions bother around User education, onboarding Incentives and Rewards, institutional & corporate users, interoperability, user feedback, long-term Value and sustainability roadmap. Answers to the questions would give us a clue as to the possibility of retention of the users that would be on-boarded. I am very optimistic on the positive reverb effect of the show on the outlook of Hive to the web2 and web3 users out there. I hope we hit the jackpot this time!
