How the AI war is heating up with Deepseek?

Australia has issues with Deepseek
Australia's minister of science Ed Husic is one of the leading voices from the western world who has raised his concern about the use of users data or inn general about the policy about the users data being adopted by deepseek
This observation comes shortly after Deepseek has stirred up quite a storm in the AI industry of the world.
The industry is mainly dominated and governed by the tech giants of the western world and the entry of DeepSeek as a Chinese competitor has been seen by many as a war of the west and the east.
Even more so is the fact that Deepseek is offering its cutting edge solution that is giving its western counterparts a run for their money.
Not only is the deepseek platform being touted as being a lot better than its western counterparts and AI tech providers but also the fact that it is doing so at a fraction of the cost raises some serious business questions and also challenges the dominance of the AI industry by the western countries.
The effect of the DeepSeek launch has been a serious dampener for the leading AI related stocks as the valuations have taken a serious beating and investors have been selling and having a serious look at the valuations being offered to some the leading AI related tech stocks.
It is not new that the tech providers from china have been frequently probed as to the way they use the user data. Be it tick tock or Huawei they have all faced some serious questions and hard consequences for not being able to adhere to user privacy standards that may be acceptable to a number of countries.
Not so long ago the American president Donald Trump was heralding the US AI industry as the world leader in AI however the launch of DeepSeek and the way it has caused a serious meltdown of the valuations of the global leading AI related stocks is quite an eye opener.
US vs Australia has two divergent views
The American president was more vocal about the fact as to how DeepSeek could bring down the prices.
While the US president did not touch upon the data security issue related to Deepseek, the Australian minister was more vocal in voicing his security & privacy related concerns for the users of DeepSeek

deepseek continues to be a leader

Interestingly in both USA & UK as well as in so many countries around the world this has become a top downloaded app

Deepseek numbers do not lie

Since launch over 3000000 users have installed DeepSeek onto their devices.
Out of these as many as 80% of the downloads have been happening in the last week itself making it a hot favourite AI tool amongst the global AI user base.

DeepSeek download trivia: did you know that ? : Deepseek outperformed Perplexity downloads by a 3:1 ratio, that is for every 1 Perplexity download there were 3 deepSeek downloads.

Karoline Leavitt has stated that they are looking at National security implications related to matters related to Deepseek

The USA navy is cautious about the use of deepseek.

They have cautioned users as it may have security related implications and has gone ahead to the extent of banning the downloading and the use of the app.

What data does deepseek take?

The AI game is data centric and DeepSeek collects the user data which it saves in its servers which are located in China
The data collected is
Email
Phone number
Date of Birth
Additionally the text, audio and chat history are also accessible by deepseek
Additionally the mobile phone model, its operating system and version along with keystroke patterns may also be stored.
As per deepseek all this information is used to improve the current offering of its software.
Offering to the end users.
Additionally it would share the information with service providers ,advertising companies and other related businesses.

Things are only heating up

It is still early days for the tech and business war between deepseek and its western counterparts. Not only that it has some serious competition from its home grown chinese competition.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the world of AI evolves. Is there more to come? Have we seen the best and worst of it? Endless possibilities...
