The Lily, Italy's Second Silver Bullion Coin as Silver Pushes Back Above $80

Over the last two years the Italian Mint in Rome has entered the silver and gold bullion coin arena, and they haven't disappointed. Instead of going for patriotic themes as most countries elect to do, they decided to go with art. In all honesty, it probably is a much better fit considering the strong art history of the European nation. The series they have chosen to pursue is the Flora and Fauna celebrating the rich Italian culture of flowering plants. Last year they used The Daisy, but this year The Lily was chosen as the featured design.

On the reverse (back) of the coin is a young, beautiful woman who is the embodiment of all Italian flora. That feature remains unchanged since last year's kickoff of the series. So far this year I have only seen the silver being offered for sale, but I'm sure later in the year some gold will be offered as well at much smaller mintages. I picked up one of these from last year and will have to get another this year to keep my collection going!

Sadly, most of my Italian friends have disappeared from Hive over the last year. If any are still here I hope they get a chance to check this out! Here's the coin for 2026, The Lily:

The one I chose to share here is a first strike made early in the series and graded as a perfect mint state MS70. Why this version? I just thought the pictures came out nicer to be honest.

This is a really nice series of bullion coins, this is one Troy ounce of solid silver and just like last year, a stunning coin. Since this one is graded as a perfect coin and a first strike it's being offered at $249.99. The non graded coins are also available at a much more reasonable price of $116.57 as of the time of writing. Only 17,000 will be minted, so they will be a rather small run this year once again.

Will they ever surpass the American Eagle in popularity? No. But they are a great start for Italy into the world of bullion coins!

Silver

The precious metals are continuing their recovery from the Iran conflict as it seems more and more investors are taking profits from oil and moving at least some back into metals. That may change if things heat up in Iran once again, but for the time being silver is looking extremely strong on the charts. It continues to be in extremely short supply as it's needed in just about every electronic product on the face of the earth. The reason for that is simple, silver is the best conductor of electricity in the universe. At least that we know of so far... It is possible in the future we will create some alloy that is a better conductor, but it's not likely to happen anytime soon, that much is for certain!

It also continues to be hoarded throughout Asia, and by investors around the world. Here is silver over the last five days maintaining it's price above $80!

If you haven't started to stack precious metals now is the time to start. Remember that gold and silver have always been money for as long as mankind had existed, and it always will have value. It's a great way to build personal wealth as well. You can start small, very small bars of silver are available as well as gold. The trick is to start and continue to collect regularly, and soon you will have a nice stack of precious metal!
