I don't self-vote and never have in my few months that I have been on Hive. I was told early on that you should not do it, as it is frowned upon and some big voters will downvote you if they see you doing it.

Yes they do, monkey see ~ monkey do. That is why it is important how people join hive, to get the right guidance from day 1.
