On chains and necklaces – the hallmark is located near or on the clasp. A fineness mark is stamped as a three-digit number that indicates the percentage of gold in the item. The “585” stamped on a piece of gold jewelry indicates the jewelry contains 58.3% pure gold (and 41.7% alloy) or 14k. Is the cross stamped with a hallmark?
