Family Ties

I've seen people talk about how people(especially those related by blood) are said to become vicious against each other just for something of value.

Be it money or anything of monetary value

When people come together it's easier to become loving and all.

It's also easy to show empathy towards others when you don't have anything to lose in the process. But whenever it involves money or anything that's of some monetary value, it's hard to know how people will react.

Money is an emotional beast that takes over our emotions depending on how much power we allow it to have over us. It's true for the saying in the scripture that money is the root of all evil. Take a look at many wars that are being fought today and also in the past. They all were birth through two or more people having fracas on something of value like land and money. World wars were all due to the fact that one jurisdiction wanted to take Dominion over another man's jurisdiction.

This can happen in any group, society, and in any association.

However, those related by blood are the exception as they are meant to look out for each other.

Our families are supposed to be our nearest and dearest humans. Not only for the fact that they are your flesh and blood but also because they are the first set of humans you bond with before going out to connect and relate with other households.

But just as they are supposed to look out for each other, they also have much more power than an outsider when it comes to doing some damage to any of their kin and siblings.

Our families should be our backup and also a stronghold we are supposed to rely on in times of tribulations and during our darkest days. This can be true for some households, but on average, the word family today is merely a term that only means you are related by blood. Nothing like unconditional love or empathy involved.

Many of those we are not even related to by blood have more empathy and kindness towards us than most of our kin in the words of today.

Today’s kinsmen only support you when things are going nicely, and neglect you when the going gets tough.

But the tough has got no choice but to keep going

I can say the same for my dad's kin. When he was hospitalized many of them whom he was suppose to lean on never demonstrated any act of kindness. And the reason was due to some squabble from the past about some acre of land they inherited from their dad(my grandpa).

In their little minds, they thought he was going to give up the ghost so they can be able to have full access to what's meant for the whole family. His brother and elder sister were the ones spreading all sorts of rumors about how he had received the yearly reward for a year to pay for his hospital bills unknowingly to others that the two of them spreading the said rumor had got to the person managing the farmland and had coerced him and collected the yearly rewards from him when they informed him about how my dad is hospitalized and at the point of life and death, so he won't be able to show up there. He must've called but the call never went through because the reception at the hospital was very bad

However, after fighting for his life for more than 6 months in the hospital bed, he pushed through and finally got to be discharged back to his home.

It was when he got back home that some of them started coming around with some sort of allegation against him about the farmlands’ yearly reward without considering the fact that he was still in recovery.

Looking from the outside you'll find it hard to notice any form of bad blood among them especially when it's about turning up to an occasion. Owanbe is always lit when they gather together to celebrate something or the other. But deep within there's a lot of envy and hate rooted in their mind.

When it comes to money matters many of them unleash their demons and their inflated ego which stems from too much love for money.

My dad doesn't like to get involved anymore with family inheritance but due to the fact that he's the first son he has no choice but to take responsibility so the rest won't create a bad blood among themselves because of money.

After many allegations and hateful words my dad had to get across to the farm manager. The truth revealed itself when the man explained what actually happened, and to whom he had paid the money to, some months ago. It was at that moment that they all calmed down.

On hearing the truth they had to swallow all their pride and apologize.

This got me thinking about how family members can be so irritating and difficult to deal with when it comes to anything of value.

Have you had such an experience before? What can you use to describe your family's behavior when it comes to anything of value? Is it like that with yours? Or it's different?

Honestly money has caused a lot of damages in our life where brother fight against brother just for the quest for money and dominion. It's not today money takes dominion over man but it's the things of the past.

Yes, it has. But I believe we can do better than the past if we want to.
