Businsess Expansion: I Got My Pilot (unmanned aircraft) Licence

Goooooooooood day Lion's and Hivians what a wonderful start to 2025 as things begin to recover for me from COVID as many of us have experienced significant delays, set backs and financial implications. But with every set back there is opportunity!

If you have followed my account you'd know I am an avid hobby Drone flyer having many pictures and videos of drones over the years. More recently I have decided to expand my hobby to add it to my side hustle where I commenced selling Aussie made supplements.

Drone photography is a growing industry and a relatively new one that has added benefits for businesses in all sectors, when it comes to marketing your business it's about capturing the audience and new and exciting things capture attention and retain viewers enabling you to reach more people. Afterall, that's what business is all about. Letting people know you exist.

Non Commercial Practice

Fortunately for me, my partner is an elected representative so I get to practice and build a portfolio non commercially which you can watch my edit here. In Australia it is illegal to commercially operate a drone without a license and it's a bit of a catch 22 because you need the experience but as all businesses it is a risk to venture into.

Operating drones commercially in Australia requires adherence to safety and operational standards set by CASA which I was able to meet and received my Achieving Remote Pilot Authorisation after completing the training to understand aviation regulations, airspace classifications and safe operating procedures.

It also involved practical assessment to demonstrate my understanding in drone operations and the law.

Receiving my Aviation Reference Number is super exciting!. The ARN acts as a unique identifier within CASA’s system, linking me to the authorisations and permissions required to operate commercially. The certifications allow me to fly drones for business purposes opening another business opportunity based on things I enjoy.

Being in Australia we are a big vacant nation and I think it is a wonderful place to own a drone and unlike other nations, we are pretty loose with our sub category drones under 2kg, while the rules and regulations are impactful, the RPA and license enables me to seek permissions to fly in certain areas and opens up more opportunity.

Industries Seeking Drone Photography

Not too long ago the only way to get birds eye view was with a really long stick or hire private charters and use helicopters and planes but those expensive ventures made it unaffordable. Today's technology open's up an entire new world to videography that can help real estate agents, tourism, agriculture, construction and even media in a way never before seen.
