Are We Raising Thinkers or Copy Pasters? A Thought on AI and Education

(edited)

Greetings to all the readers here,
The beauty of education and knowledge used to come from books. Sadly, in the time we are living today, books are not valued much. There are so many alternatives available now that books have lost their importance.

Me and my friends recently went to a market, the same market where we used to hang around when we were in school. There we met an old man who was selling books. We bought three books, and actually, I did not buy one. One of my friends gifted me a book.

I asked the old man if people still buy books from him often, and he replied no. He said it is very rare when he manages to sell multiple books at once. I felt a little sad hearing that, but also thankful we could buy from him.

There are so many tools today that young people and students use, and they feel proud about it. There is nothing wrong in that. Maybe they are evolving with time. But I still feel that books should hold an important place in our lives.

The beauty that comes from reading a book and understanding something deeply is not equal to what we learn from a video or from any artificial intelligence tool. The process of reading brings calmness, focus, and more imagination.

When I meet my younger siblings, they use artificial intelligence tools to do their holiday homework. I remember when I was in school, I used to read the newspaper, search on the internet, and spend hours before even starting my homework.

Today, you just write your topic into a tool and the tool will do everything for you. It sounds good, right? But honestly, I feel this might kill the creativity students develop in their early years.

Maybe these tools should not be used by younger children. Maybe there should be some age limit. I am not against technology, but I just think that people might lose creativity by using such tools too much at a young age.

When I raise a child, I will make sure to teach them the importance of books and the importance of having conversations with others and exchanging thoughts. That is where real knowledge comes from, I believe.

But yes, at some stage in life, we all need to develop. That is the time when I think we should start using such tools as well. So yes, I support the use of technology, but only at the right age.

What do you think about these tools in the world today? Do you use them often? Or when did you use them for the first time?

I used ChatGPT for the first time in 2024, and to be honest, I was also shocked to see a tool that can do everything. I used to ask mathematical questions, and the answers came within a few seconds. At that time, I tried my best to find mistakes in the bot.

Source

There were a few mistakes that I was able to find. For example, ChatGPT is not very good with religious knowledge. If you ask it about religion in depth, you will probably not get the correct answer every time.

So that was the point where I started to feel that books are still important. These are just my personal views about books and artificial intelligence. I hope no one will feel offended with anything I said here.

Thank You for reading my BLog.

The world is definitely moving away from teaching young ones to think. It is very apparent.
