BEAUTIFUL BLACK BLOOD.

David Diop is a French West African poet well known for contribution to Negritude literary movement. Most of his works were concentrated more on an anti-colonial mindset. David Diop was born in the early nineties, so he knows what it feels to be harassed and oppressed by these so called colonial masters. The fact that he is partly European and partly African, he feels his complexion has suffered a lot under the so called colonial (European) masters. The fact that he is also black, which the whites see as irritating, he decided to rise up against such discrimination and try to give hope to the Africans. As a proponent of Negritude back in the nineties, he made sure such movement together with its policy was greatly upheld to fight against the galling french administration. He knows the Africans possess values, history, culture which they strongly adhere to and believe in and so can't just be deprived of something they cherish so much. His poem, 'Africa', has been a poem I've known since my childhood days. During my primary school education, I once had to perform the poem on stage and since then I never forgot about it. David Diop's 'Africa' reminded our ancestors of who they were, it is reminding us of who we are presently and it will remind the coming generation.

BEAUTIFUL BLACK BLOOD.

David Diop through his poem, Africa, made his fellow Africans know what it means to be of the black race. He uses the phrase 'Beautiful black blood ' to signify how worthy they are to carry such colour. The fact that he makes use of 'black blood' which symbolizes African nature and at the same time it's culture. He makes them understand that their nature is beautiful, wonderful, and at the same time strong.
The gaining of independence from the so called colonial masters might have arguably been the best thing to happen to the Africans; carrying themselves with pride thereby showing and representing a sense of identity and at the same time appreciation of their culture.
The importance of being independent can be embodied in the fact that they celebrate their achievements, their diverse cultures, and histories while looking forward to their African heritage.
Fast forward to this present time, the beauty of being independent comes with the pride of boasting what they have.
Africa is home to 40 percent of the world's gold, and at the same time 90 percent to it's chromium and platinum. Africa also holds the largest reserves of diamonds, uranium and cobalts. And also 65 percent of arable land in the world. Generally speaking, Africa holds the largest portion of natural resources ranging from minerals, water, oil, wildlife arable land and many more. This is an epitome of the beauty and pride of Africa.

The question now is can we swallow our pride? How far can we sustain these resources and at the same time sustain ourselves? Is there light at the end of the tunnel?
