Tigran Gambaryan formally resigns from Binance following return to US

Tigran Gambaryan, Binance's Head of Financial Crime Compliance, formally resigned from the company on June 6, 2025, following his return to the US after being detained in Nigeria for nearly eight months in 2024.

He was arrested on charges of money laundering and currency manipulation while visiting Nigeria on behalf of Binance, but these charges were eventually dropped, and he was released on humanitarian grounds due to deteriorating health.

During his tenure at Binance, which began in 2021, Gambaryan built a global investigations team of about 100 former prosecutors and federal agents, overseeing the company's response to thousands of law enforcement requests and strengthening anti-money laundering protocols. His work was widely recognized, and Binance praised his contributions to making the crypto industry safer.

In his resignation announcement, Gambaryan emphasized his intention to remain in the crypto industry, focusing on bridging technology, enforcement, and compliance as digital assets increasingly intersect with traditional finance and national security. He expressed interest in continuing to make a difference either in public service or with mission-driven private sector institutions.

His departure comes amid broader regulatory challenges for Binance globally and follows a series of high-profile executive exits, including founder Changpeng Zhao.

Gambaryan's exit marks the end of a turbulent chapter for both himself and Binance as the company works to repair regulatory relationships and strengthen compliance frameworks.
