Survival & Success: The Thread In Between

I like listening to Steve Harvey's opinion about money and this is because he is an OG in the game. The man built an empire from nothing and to me this is commendable.

His podcast resonates with financial freedom and awareness, he is a man who knows his onions, especially if you had such humble beginnings and could relate to his story from the angle of a person who had nothing from the beginning, no inheritance, no investment, no capital, just the skill, and the knack to survive beyond all odds.

Although he might use his Story often to motivate people to succeed, the truth is, not a lot of people would be ready to make the sacrifices be made.

His success story often undersells the suffering and the sacrifices he had to make, I'm sure there will be things he had done to survive that will forever remain with him, and since his life oozes of wealth and money, I'm sure he'll still find it very difficult to paint or portray his survival story.

It's why I often say the need to survive is a huge motivator. The sense of survival comes from being conscious of one's situation, there's an internal awareness, a sort of Mental accounting that's present.

One's totally aware of their business, how much it yields, and the sense of realization as to whether they should remain in that business or not, especially when they're not making any headways.

Being scared of loss so much that it leads to smart diversification of portfolio and resources. While everything I mentioned above seems like the pinnacle of success on the surface, below, it isn't, it's majorly built on the need for survival.

So many people are just living, they're not thinking about what they'll do if they suddenly have an emergency, they're comfortable with being able to afford the next meal, and eventually, when they go through a rough patch in life, it's checkmate for them.

One thing people don't know is that continuous attempts at survival make one thrive. Now thriving is leaving that stage of survival for stability.

It gets to a point in time where our attempts at survival take us off ground zero and places us in a near-comfortable position and if we eventually fail to stop pushing, we might lose that position. The biggest threat we mostly face is finance threat, I remembered when I was working from seven to seven 5 years ago.

That was 12 hours of work non-stop on a daily. The work stress puts me in bad health conditions, but anything I recover, I'll still go back to the job, this was because I needed to live, the fear of death doesn't come when you're facing the immediate scare of lack, and want.

This means that people who are alive might put themselves, and their bodies in serious health situations.

This isn't because they're not aware of the danger, but because if they don't, they face a bigger threat that's more eminent than the fear of losing their life. Survival is finding ways to live even with existing or prevalent dangers.

Because money eventually solves most of the problems we have, people would take risks, calculated or uncalculated, not minding the external repercussions and that might eventually become a success story at one point in time. However, not everyone eventually gets to thrive even in their attempts to survive.

This means that a lot of people will remain in the survival phase all their lives, earning the same salaries, getting their efforts eaten away by inflation, and incurring more expenditures even if they attempt to minimize them. and this isn't because they didn't try, it's simply because some things didn't work for them.

There are times we might be conscious and do the right thing, but how well did we do them? Did we aim at getting results, did we try or make attempts to do things differently?

So even when we're motivated by the success stories of others, it's important to also listen to their survival stories, this might determine the degree, the scope of our efforts.

At the end of the day, survival and success are the same highways, we're the threads that eventually connect them with every risk, effort and attempt.

It's hard to tell what is right or wrong. From what I see, nobody can tell what is going to happen in the future but they can make an educated guess. So doing research and learning from your mistakes seems like the best way to move forward. In some way, everyone should understand that generally high reward might require high risk.

There's no way low risk would bring high reward unless in some situations. However I believe that you're right. People who can even make educated guess threads the line of risk. At the end of the day, no risk no reward.

At the end of the day, survival and success are the same highways, we're the threads that eventually connect them with every risk, effort and attempt.

This is a powerful point you have here, indeed our every action and choice each day eventually leads to us thriving or just surviving.

The fear of death doesn't come when you're facing the immediate scare of lack, and want.

Or the fear of what happens to you after death doesn’t count when you’re facing an immediate want. My friend who is a medical student told me some info I wasn’t prepared to hear tonight. He told me how some people sell their bodies to be used as cadavers for studies and for practical lessons for them (medical students) whiles they still alive and walking around I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think any desperation of sorts could make me see this as the last resort. As my last option. I get that desperation can make people do a lot of things, but I’ve seen what forensics do to cadavers and I don’t think I’ll be okay handing my body over to be used as a “lab rat” even after my death for whatever reason. I just don’t feel comfortable with it.
