Influencers....

Especially in the crypto space seem to be more concerned about TikTok views rather than actually using this Web3 stuff. And yeah, the jury is still out on how easy it is to onboard and actually use this stuff, but I can't help think...

What if?

What if someone with some clout, started talking about Hive and actually using this blockchain every single day. Over the years, I've heard @theycallmedan mention this countless times..."All it takes is one!"

One influencer.

One creator with an entrepreneurial mind that will become the first 'traditional mainstream influencer' to actually use...Web3!

It got me thinking out loud, and I thought I'd share my thougths with the blockchain community to perhaps, spearhead an initiative to get Hive noticed by someone who could really help bring awareness to the chain.

A few things:

  1. I know people may argue, we're not ready for mainstream adoption. Have you ever heard of 'getting ready forever'? When exactly will we be 'ready'? If Hive gets noticed by some big accounts in social media, it will bring more development and more attention to perhaps...Help onboarding become easier.
  1. And I know some people will say....Screw the traditional influencers. And I'm ALL FOR building our own community here. I love watching people grow on Hive and get rewarded for sharing their passions...But influencers...Well...Influence. And if we get them talking about Hive, I think it would be a great thing.

  2. This is again, just an idea rolling around in my head. Would love to see where it goes and develop it into something really fun for the entire community to take part in.

O.K., the idea....

Crypto still lives on Twitter. For better or for worse, it's the place where most crypto enthusiasts go for news, gossip and scandal in the space.

And there are a lot of VERY influential people on Twitter.

We would create some kind of hashtag, and again I'm just spitballing ideas here: #ElonOnHive

Every day, we would tag (for this example Elon Musk) and remind him that he's still not on Hive....

We could have fun with it and create some graphics to go along with the campaign and share with the influencer, why they should be on Hive.

And the game plan is....Not to spam the crap out of them, but to have fun with it. Joke about the fact, no one seems to notice the 'real Web3' blockchain that everyone wants to build...Etc...

Perhaps @hivecreators could come up with some sneaky little ideas and landing pages as well for the campaign, but I think it could potentially generate some buzz and heck, even more people coming to see what's being built here!

But again....Just an idea rolling around in my head, so I'd love to hear what you guys think?

Side note: I know how HUGE the Hive community can be on Twitter. From the classic @NathanMars projects over the years, to seeing what @Acidyo is building with POSH tokens...We could be a force on Twitter, if we coordinate and strategically raise awareness for Hive.

It is important to consider attracting the right people for the blockchain. The same way we have to consider the content that is shared to attract people. Fetching the right information matters.

You've brainstormed some really creative ideas and I think while we've made efforts to grow hive, I don't think we have collectively done enough. Maybe it's because some don't feel we're ready for adoption?
I don't know, but if you ask me, we're more than ready.
I think we just need some of the best and most innovative ideas to get there

Yeah man, it's like analysis paralysis. We will sit and wait to be ready forever...Get uncomfortable, attract people and stomp out the onboarding issues while we grow. I dunno, maybe it' snot as easy as that but I know when my back is against the wall...I figure thing out.

We can't sit and wait that's it, imperfection isn't so terrible, who is to say we cannot seek for traction while while improving at the same time

I've tried it with Elon a couple of times as well, but it didn't work. BUT I believe project blank will play an important role in bringing crypto people to Hive. Most of these individuals don't want to post long-form content. It all happens at high speed and we need to spread the word at the same pace. Once this app will be launched we will see some so-called influencers coming to Hive. I bet on that.

Oh for sure. Micro-blogging and short form content is where social media thrives. I know it's coming here soon!

Re: "not ready"

I laugh when people say they are not ready (especially when they say it regarding having children. Trust me, nobody is ever "ready" for that. It is an act of faith.) I wasn't "ready" the first time I sang a solo or did ASL interpreting at church or did my first bridal fitting or went into labor. But I GOT READY QUICK because once I started I was committed. We learn as we go. Works in business, relationships, art... !BBH

Really cool idea, Jon! Actually one of my goals for the coming months is to share articles I post here via Twitter. Think this could make some more people, especially from my circle of competence „Finance“, aware of Hive/LeoFinance.

But I also like you little Elon idea. As I wrote in my latest post (https://ecency.com/hive-167922/@borsengelaber/polygon-nft-success-shows-potential-for-hive-polygon-nft-erfolg-zeigt-potenzial-fuer-hive:

If we could get a big name working with us, be it Elon or some other this would be a huge booster. We have much to offer in the field of NFT, Gaming and Social Media.

Regards Thomas

0.00100365 BEE

Yeah I mean, I just used Elon as an example, not saying that he would be the guy or gal to target. Just someone who is trailblazing, because you know most crypto influencers rarely practice what they preach.

!CTP

I am surprised this has not happened yet by itself given the issue on censorship in the past. However, some influencers are probably best than others as some really seek to add adoption and value while other are really just shilling tokens. I think GaryVee is a solid example of one we could definitely team up with.

0.00099307 BEE

Agreed. And I'm surprised, as savvy as Gary is, he hasn't jumped onboard Hive yet. This blockchain is like built for him,.

!CTP

0E-8 BEE

It's a very interesting idea, @jongolson. I have two main thoughts on the matter.
It is odd that we as a censor-free, web3 platform are thinking of using a traditional centralised, and most definitely censored platform like Twitter (or Instagram, or You Tube, take your pick) to grow our business.
Influencers use a platform for a reason. Most are paid for the "job" of being an influencer on a particular platform. The censored and centralised platform that we are looking to to grow our business.
What can we give the influencer in return though? Given that we are looking to the influencer to grow our business we obviously do not have the reach to do it on our own. Are we prepared to pay the influencer?

0.00098949 BEE

I dont think we are trying to 'grow' on Twitter. It's more leveraging their reach and pull to help grow Hive. It's a fishing analogy...We have to go fish, where the fish are biting.

Good post.

It's nice to dream, but I'm not sure finding the right influencer is a good goal. Top influencers will arrive when their followers get here. Maybe we should focus on recruiting creators who are now working their tails off on Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter to gain enough followers to siphon traffic to their web properties and monetize it. If they can see the monetization benefits, the data ownership benefits, and all the other benefits, then they'll migrate here. When enough of them move over, the top influencers will move over.

BTW, what is this Swarm thing? I'm not familiar with that.

0.00098860 BEE

I think that's backwards for me, because it's always been...Tastemakers that drive the masses to things. Like a DJ playing a new record on radio a few decades ago...The masses then jumped on something because it was put out there.

CTP Swarm is our tribe and token :)

!CTP

0E-8 BEE

Yes, but have you noticed that the best DJs end up at the biggest radio stations? Why is that? It's because they started out small and gained a reputation. Once they had their reputation, they went to a larger venue where they could influence more people to listen to the right kind of music. Moving to a smaller venue would be a downgrade for them. What you want are the smaller DJs who haven't built up their reputation yet so that Web3 social media is an upgrade for them.

0E-8 BEE

I think there are aspects of both. Twitter became popular which is why influences (a term that didn't exist or wasn't widely used then) went there. This in turn brought even more people. In other words, it will be hard to convince influences to come here until a certain critical mass is achieved. Then you won't have to convince them. Maybe the process can be short circuited by finding a couple of early adopter influences but that will be a tough road.

Hi @jongolson! 👋

First of all, I always like the idea of promoting Hive
But I also like to look at the things from the other side perspective.
Now, imagine you are Elon, (no t impossible lol)
Imagine 5000 or so Twittes everyday trying to get attention from Elon. It's impossible.. most accurate thing you might do is, ignore all, whether they are good projects or just scam.

It's not impossible to get attention but if you do like 99% of others, you go to the same bag.

Note: I think I know what it doesn't work but I don't know what it works.

0.00100222 BEE

Thats why it would need to be creative and fun. Not just 'shill our token' but a funny way....Like it's been day 45 and ELon still hasn't noticed us on Hive...Just a fun way to get Hive noticed.

!CTP

0E-8 BEE

Hum... Honestly don't know.
But you remind me one thing that I (even can imagine why) don't understand but could make an huge difference for Hive. Hive have no description on Binance. I will support an huge campaign in Twitter to alert Binance or CZ to that. It's not the same that shilling a token. Is demand/force someone to do something. It's insane that BSC shitcoins (and other chains) have a description in Binance and Hive not

0E-8 BEE

After working in marketing for almost 10 years now there is only one thing I will always be 100% certain about when it comes to influencers - if there is nothing in it for them they will never even look at the thing.

A prime example would be @cryptowendyo. She has an account here and she seems to be posting but did she ever mention Hive or Leo? Not a chance because these people think they should be paid for everything. She obviously knows about this awesome WEB 3.0 project that she could share with her followers but no one paid her to do so...

The second problem is the traditional referral mentality where everyone is expecting a share of the pie just for telling people about a certain website. It's deeply rooted in people's minds and if it doesn't bring "lifetime rewards" or some shit like that they don't even bother.

On the other side of this extreme, we have @ligerwoods, one of the best crypto YouTubers you will ever find when it comes to actually useful information. He had numerous videos where he mentioned how Hive is a great place to be at even in bear markets but check his Leo page when you get a chance. My man is getting like 3 upvotes on his posts lol.

To get to my point, yes we definitely need to ramp up our exposure but we should also check if anyone is already doing it and give them some support. We focus so much on internal engagement and completely dismiss the outside world where our targeted audience is.

I do like the idea though, we need a themed campaign that will last for more than a few days and hopefully get us some recognition.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

0.00099005 BEE

Yeah it's good to see crypto creators use Hive, but wish they would talk about it more. Slowly, hopefully they come around.

That's so true, the what's in it for me drives action and publicity it seems. So the campaign might have to tackle that, I hate thinking of paid sponsorships though lol

!CTP

I feel twitter is a good place for the growth. Like if we share the splinterlands and other content on it. I am sure a lot of new accounts would come to hive and may invest in various tokens and projects. I feel we should discuss what's already on twitter.

0.00100195 BEE

And you never know who is watching. That's the power of social media!

!CTP

0E-8 BEE

There is no time like the present to be anywhere. If Hive is not ready yet for mainstream, it will be left behind when the next bull run starts. I say go for it however I would not say Elon is the Influencer to pick as he likes coming in and taking things over and then dropping them like a hot potato. Take care.

!CTP

0.00099439 BEE

Oh but we'd all be rich if Elon came in and started buying up all the Hive LOLOL

!CTP

0.00025606 BEE

The arrival of projectblank i strongly believe will raise great awareness for Hive on Twitter. The idea of micro blogging to earn tokens and rewards is quite appealing and as you said influencers will always influence. Once a big fish is hooked on to the many juicy opportunities of Hive the rest will be history. There’s so much to anticipate on here and only time can tell when all these wishes would come into fruition.

0.00098946 BEE

That's why I truly believe as well, it'll only take one influencer to start the fire. Once people get it, they'll be hooked.

!CTP

0E-8 BEE

I think you're right, all we need is the help of just one real influencer (from traditional social media) to get HIVE out in the open. And once this happens, I am sure that HIVE will fully take off and reach heights never seen or anticipated before (both as a project, as a crypto, as a social platform).

In any case, I think we should understand one thing, to think that HIVE.blog will displace Twitter as the main social network in the crypto space, is not entirely easy, because we must realize that on Twitter, people write short posts (tweets) , that is, messages of extremely short length.

The way I see it, people who post on Twitter are lazy, because the system has accustomed them to that. That is, because at its core, Twitter is just designed for people to post their thoughts of the moment through short lines, through very little words.

In HIVE, on the other hand, making our posts requires more work, because it is a blogging platform, so we must know about codes (to format our texts); we also need to know about free image platforms. But most important we need to have deep knowledges about some theme; I mean, we need to theorically dominate some specific topic to properly develop our posts with a certain length and quality.

What I want to say is that the creators of HIVE posts differ too much from those of Twitter. For me, in general terms, more than Twitter, the one we must overcome is to MEDIUM (https://medium.com/), which is a platform that, by the way, was created by the same creators of Twitter, and which is a benchmark also in the crypto space.

In any case, what I do agree with is the use of Twitter as a means to project and give greater publicity to HIVE. Who knows, maybe we will get the support of some powerful influencers and then, we will be able to make the leap to success much faster.

I found your post very interesting and useful. Thanks for sharing. Greetings.

Yeah I dont think there will ever be a 'Twitter killer' but there can be options built here. We're seeing Dbuzz and #projectblank down the road cater to micro blogging.

The big thing, is to attract these people that can make a difference with awareness. So the next time some maxi starts yapping about Web3 and they want to build it, they get Hive thrown at them over and over again.

I don't think people should be concerned about Hive "growing too fast."

I believe rapid growth would be beneficial to the Hive ecosystem, but that is just my opinion.

I think with enough time an influencer will come along .
It will be someone on Hive who catches other platforms interests.
Look at Splinterlands for example, It is doing quite well.
It is all about attraction.
The right person will attract the right people.
I'm not sure there is a formula for success.

For sure man! And yeah, exactly what I was thinking....Some kind of way for memes to get spread in good taste, joking about a topic the person would relate to. Obviously, I thought Elon as soon as I thought Twitter lol But that's my thinking too....Just a fun way to raise awareness for Hive, and attract attention from people with a lot of pull.

0.00430358 BEE

Lovely ideas in the post and comments and something that it is easy for people to take part in (plus we have so many clever creators here). But maybe someone other than Elon?

0E-8 BEE

Could even be something as simple as meme competitions with the tag you mentioned about elon and hive since he seems to like and share memes so often.

Combine it with him pulling out of the twitter deal, etc, etc.

I posted recently about not just rewarding link sharing with the #hive tag but also discussions where #/$hive is mentioned, etc, talking with the posh dev lately if it's a possibility for him to get that going which would help incentivize people to do these kind of waves for hive on CT. Probably a different token, maybe a small airdrop/claimbdrop to posh holders and new registered users on hiveposh.com for liquidity and then it would just take a couple whales driving up price to give the crypto twitter a boost while we'd have "curators" make sure only the right sort of engagement is getting rewarded, not those blindlessly spamming, being obnoxious, negative, fuddy, etc with the hive tags.

Rather than doing the daily posts it could maybe have its own community (we could rebirth the posh community created by myself and @theycallmedan) where each "discussion" tweet (rather than POSH link tweet) could be posted onto for others to easier find them and support the ones they like with their likes and retweets, which at the same time would get the tweets more visibility in the threads and more attention from the original tweeter. This was one of the ideas behind the community (I participated in it with @acidposh if you want to take a look at it).
