Four Criminals Killed a Bitcoiner

Financial Crime Academy

Hey folks.

Four suspects have been arrested by the police for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a foreign national Bitcoiner in Ukraine, after stealing $170,000 worth of Bitcoin.

Kyiv Police confirmed on July 29 that the four suspects, who are all male and between the ages of 24 and 29, apparently planned the attack and began their assault at midnight on July 29.

After hearing shouts and witnessing multiple individuals assaulting and shoving a man into a car, the residents called the police.

According to the police, the victim was taken to an abandoned building where he was forced to transfer around 2.55 Bitcoin worth approximately 7 million Ukrainian hryvnias before choking the man to death and burying the body in a forest.

In an effort to hide the crime, Kyiv Police further claim that the four men altered the car's look and license plate. After converting the Bitcoin into stacks of US dollars and euros, the culprits were apprehended by Kyiv Police.

Back in 2022, the body of a crypto millionaire was found in a suitcase dismembered in Argentina, while another individual was beaten to death with a dumbbell in Bulgaria and their body parts were flushed down a drain.

According to Bitcoin cypherpunk Jameson Lopp, a lot of these criminals usually use social media posts, open discussions, meetups, and conferences to find potential victims.

Peer-to-peer trades (especially with people you don't trust), showing off your wealth on social media, and dressing in apparel with cryptocurrency branding are all severely discouraged, according to Lopp.

“The general premise is that if criminals are less aware of you, they are less likely to target you.”

Stay safe.
