I Definitely Live in my Own Bubble on Hive
I read @dalz's report on front-ends earlier today and there were a few things interesting about it.
One of them was that, among the top three front-ends on Hive, Ecency performed the best this year regarding the evolution of the number of posts published. The other side of the coin is Hive.Blog, which performed the worse.
Then, I loved to see the Leofinance community unshaken during this bear market, and that the posting activity remained constant throughout the year and not going down with the dollar value of HIVE, like in most other cases.
But there's something else. There is an interface with considerable posting activity on Hive that I haven't heard of before (over 5k posts in December already).
As you can see in the image above, its name is somee. Looks like dalz doesn't know it either after the answer to my question.
I went through an almost entire process of researching what this app was about: website (without joining), twitter, and finally Hive. If I had done things in reverse, it would have saved me some time.
Whoever is behind this app, is around since the very early days of the former blockchain (2016).
The account for the app is quite old too (since December 2018).
I know it is said the number associated with our accounts that says reputation doesn't hold much relevance, but something like this
says it was either involved in a whales' war or it got downvoted for abusing the reward pool huge time. Feel free to correct me if the reason was different.
I may be wrong, but I haven't seen this app this high on the posting activity before.
I didn't like the requirements for personal details the moment I saw them. Even less when you have something like Keychain you can easily integrate into all Hive-related apps. It is obvious they want your full name and email, which is something I avoid sharing on apps I know little about (and generally, online, as much as possible).
I could have given some bogus details just to test out the app, but why bother? If I dislike something right from the start, it's a good indicator I won't like it when I go deeper. Even if others do! After all, there are so many people still using Web 2.0 social media, while I only still have a Twitter account, which I rarely use.
Unless someone knows something I don't know, I'd be cautious in these cases. Other people may be tempted, like me, to see what is that app they never heard of that shows up in the tops.
With enough RCs and a little bit of knowledge, one can publish enough posts to make it to the top even with a non-existent app. Not saying this is the case or that it would be a point to this. Just that it is possible.

Ecencians are rockin Hive! ♥️
Yes, it looks like they are. Ecency grew significantly over the summer.
Decent, Kind, and Helpful! It's a good place to be.
Seems like the perfect place for newcomers.
Funny @gadrian, I just noticed this somee app about two days ago. I think I found it in the Google play store. Thanks for this analysis. We will have to be cautious as well. And yes I do use @ecency quite a bit.
What we know for sure unless directly involved is that something happened that they have such a low rep. And personally, I dislike being asked for personal details when joining a site I know nothing about.
Yeah peakd is very famous and popular app on hive. Hive is strong and trusted platform. Hopefully his apps become more popular over all the world. Actifit app helps people's to maintain his health daily. Hive is better than Twitter and Facebook. People's share hive original content and earn some money. Thanks for sharing.
Well, we certainly like to think Web 3.0 which Hive represents best is better than Web 2.0.
Inspector gadrian! 🔥
Yeah, lol.
I do notice a few posts that I read on the ecency frontend and saw 'via somee' on the footer but I never went down the rabbit hole to check what it is about. Strange that it has 5K posts in December alone and most people still don't know much about it.
I don't know. Maybe it's an older app that had some issues with spam and now it's back again. Maybe it's a legit app, maybe not. Time will tell. Time, and those using it.
Thank you for sharing!

Sure, you're welcome.
Peakd doesn’t to have an app doesn’t it? Ecency is decent, but app functionality to interact with the tokens is very limited.
No, PeakD doesn't have an app. As for the Ecency app, I haven't used it in quite a while. They probably improved it since the last time I used it.
Ecency is growing through strong community engagements! They have some great leaders inside the community and you can see many improvements in their front end too... It looks like they are more about work and less talk... 😃
That's often the best way to do it. I checked it out again a couple of months ago when I was looking for the first RC delegation tool, It is simple and easy to use, and I like how things flow. And I like they have a dark mode. For me, that's a must, and hive.blog doesn't have it. What I don't particularly like, but it's a matter of preference, is the font they use when showing posts.
Agree with you about the font... I don't like it either... 😃
Oh Somee :)
I think they were trying to do their own social thing, but after not gaining a ton of traction alone, they simply plugged in Hive.
Great to see that they're doing well!

They did? Any idea what's with that rep?
Hi @gadrian maybe threads had something to do with more posts on Leo. I like Leo it's cool and I can't believe how fast time has gone by since 2019!
I like HIVE better than the other social media that is full of trolls.
HIVE Is better and I love the community here. HIVE is refreshing.

I think that chart only counted top-level posts, and technically threads are made as comments to a post Leothreads creates every day, so they aren't counted.
Compared to the number of users and the fact that many people have more than one account (some used for something else, not posting), Hive is much more engaging than most other social media platforms I know.
Here's a brief overview of my journey with SoMee.
I was actually wondering about the disconnect between SoMeeans and Hivers. I also have no knowledge of what happened in the past. All I know is that the platform is giving me SWAP.HIVE on weekly basis for my Hive Engine activity. And besides, I notice that there is an increased engagement since the somee.social update two months ago.

What kind of posts are there? General or targeted for a certain audience?
It's general. It's like whatever you want to post. What I don't like actually is just seeing a user posting one photo and that's it. But who am I to say that such a thing is not allowed since most Hivers also do it on Threads and DBuzz?
Hmm, maybe that's why their rep was brought to the ground level. It may have been considered a spamming application.
It depends. DBuzz ran into some trouble too, but I heard they were working to change the way they post. Threads doesn't publish top-level posts, so it doesn't trigger automated votes.
PeakD and ecency are front-ends that I use quite often so I am glad to see them both up top. As for Somee, I remember it being quite popular when it came out but after that, I didn't see much of it afterwards.

Damn, what I say in the title is true. I don't remember anything about Somee.

If you are going to be in a bubble, Hive is a great place to be.

Still, it's better to not live in a bubble at all.
Veews is gonna be on that list…Very soon!
Not sure if the powers that be even track our front end yet but they will ;)

I'm sure it will be used wider, Jon!
But in that list, it can't be unless you guys add a 'create post' feature (which, like you, I don't believe Veews needs).
