How to make money blogging on Hive

How to make money blogging on Hive.

Direct from the desk of Dane Williams.

Your guide to making money as a blogger on Hive, starting with your introductory first post.

Have you just signed up for a Hive account and want to know how to make money blogging on Hive?

If the answer is yes, then you, my friend, have come to the right place.

Hive, and my personal favourite Web3 blogging front-end called LeoFinance, is the best place to immediately monetise your blogging.

Hands.

Down!

Forget everything you know about the old Web2 model of having your data controlled and sold by tech companies to pay you.

Hive uses the power of a truly decentralised Web3 environment to hand control of not only your account data, but the entire platform, over to you.

That’s right, you’re in full control now.

Retro 80s style logo for the blogging platform you can make money on, called Hive.

How to make money blogging on Hive from day 1

Part 1 of this guide starts by introducing where the money comes from (spoiler alert, it’s not coming from someone else's account!) and then how to immediately get noticed by those in the community who matter most.

Lets dive right in.

Where do the HIVE rewards come from?

When you receive an upvote on your content, you need to understand that voter isn’t actually tipping you from their own account balance.

The money that you’re earning on your blog is actually coming from what’s called the Hive rewards pool.

What is the reward pool you ask?

Well essentially it’s how the Hive blockchain distributes its freshly minted HIVE tokens at a hard-coded inflation rate and those with HIVE tokens staked get a say in how this rewards pool is distributed on a daily basis.

The more HIVE someone has staked, the bigger their say on the daily rewards pool distribution.

Basically, they’re not tipping you money from their own account balance, but as stakeholders in the platform, they are able to distribute the daily inflation via their upvote.

Now, while from your perspective the reward may be nothing more than a great way to make money blogging (oh and it is!), it actually serves a much greater purpose at the same time.

The Hive rewards pool is an extremely effective and unique way for the HIVE cryptocurrency to be distributed far and wide.

It’s this high token distribution that ensures blockchain governance remains decentralised and ultimately secures the censorship-resistant properties of your Web3 Hive account.

Literally anyone, no matter where they are in the world, can start making money as a blogger immediately from Hive’s reward pool.

Create content that adds value and receive your portion of the daily reward pool as decided by those with a current stake in the platform.

The system is genius really.

So now you understand where the HIVE rewards come from, let’s move forward and take a look at how to get noticed by those in the community who matter most.

Yep, those with the largest stake.

How do you get noticed on Hive from day 1?

Now that little Hive explainer is out of the way, we come to the juicy part of how to actually get noticed on Hive from day 1.

The key to making money as a blogger on Hive is to get noticed by accounts with stake and thus with the biggest say on how rewards are distributed.

Yep, getting noticed by the rich guys.

Sure that may sound cringe, but that’s the nature of the Web3 blogging game here on Hive.

Just remember that as stakeholders, they have a monetary interest in curating good content and encouraging you to stake your rewards to secure the blockchain.

They want to find people just like you.

So with that in mind, the absolute first thing you must do is to create your first post under the introduceyourself tag.

The introduceyourself tag is extremely powerful…

…but as the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility.

You only get one shot at this tag, so make it count!

Most n00bs on Hive introduce themselves with a story about their boring life or how much more than everyone else they need the money.

STOP.

DO NOT DO THIS.

If you want to get noticed and actually start making money blogging on Hive from day 1 then you need to show those with stake that you’re different.

That you aren’t just here to leech the reward pool with low value content that nobody really gives a shit about.

But instead, that you’re here to add value to the community via quality content and ultimately contribute to the blockchain’s security by staking a portion of your rewards just like them.

This is the key to making money on Hive!

In this first post, I’d encourage you to introduce not only yourself (or personal brand), but also to introduce a plan for your blog.

Let the community know you understand the reward pool system and that you plan to post a daily blog in your chosen niche that they should follow.

But most of all let them know that you’re not like everyone else.

That you’re here to stake half of your rewards and actually invest in the platform that will be paying you to blog.

If you can start your Hive blogging journey in this manner, then you WILL get noticed from day 1 and start making money as a blogger immediately.

Best of probabilities to you.

PS. Part 2 of this guide to making money blogging on Hive goes over how to use a daily commenting strategy to engage with those in the community with stake.

Stay tuned by hitting the follow button and if you’re new to the Web3 blogging game on Hive, certainly don’t be afraid to reach out in the comments section.

There’s always someone here on LeoFinance who is happy to answer any questions you may have.

Even if it helps people who refer friends just offer small pieces of advice on creating their introduceyourself post.

I know first hand how when you refer a friend and they ask you questions, they're hard to answer.

I know first hand how when you refer a friend and they ask you questions, they're hard to answer.

It sure is. Especially as most newcomers are asking how to earn or getting upset due to the "lack of rewards". They don't seem to understand that it's a progress and that they have to work for it.

It's terrifying that newcomers are comparing themselves with already established, well-known authors from the minute they arrive.

It is the easiest starting point. Simply decide to participate in every article you read. Add something applicable and you will find you get rewarded on some of them.

Like this comment you left, you just got an upvote.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

If you keep on commenting daily for the next 6 months, these things will happen for sure:

  1. You will make a lot of crypto.
  2. You will see your follower/friends count growing.
  3. You will find more ideas to make more crypto.
  4. You will find more people upvoting your content.
  5. You will see your reputation number going up.

It's honestly a life-changing experience.

Some of those can get a bit over the top. However when they are concise, it is helpful. People need to understand the basics.

0E-8 BEE

"Oh no, here we go, another "Let me explain" post of which there have been SOOO many!"

I'm going to go off on a bit of a tangent here, so I apologise in advance haha....

...but the 7 day Hive rewards window is actually what encourages this to happen.

It incentivises low quality, duplicate content rather than focusing on building out evergreen content.

The blockchain actually pays people to just regurgitate the same crap that lasts a day and then is never seen or heard from again.

Super frustrating.

I'm trying to buck the trend and my focus is purely to rank leofinance.io articles on Google to drive ongoing traffic to old posts.

Create and rank long-form articles for popular Hive related search terms that new people can find and gain ongoing value from.

Long past the 7 day rewards window.

See how we go :)

See, this is what I keep banging on about when it comes to Hive, so thanks for confirming I'm not going insane or wrong: "Am I the only one who can see it; or, more importantly, the only one that cares?" I call it Pulp Fiction, whereby any old rubbish will do so long as it earns a few cents. I see so many people latching on to what someone else is doing not because they want to be a part of it but because they see how much is being earned and think "I want some of that." For a short while I was doing daily Good Morning posts until someone latched on to that and did the same but changed it slightly by adding the day to the Good Morning title. Totally lazy and parasitical IMO. Still, what are you gonna do? Hive is like the Wild West as keep being reminded. 🤷‍♂️

I think the same goes for commenting. While people have become savvier about comments, and we don't see some of the rubbish we used to see on STEEM, such as "Great Post!", "Thanks for this." and my all-time favourite "I upvoted this." there's a heck of a lot of pressure to comment being promoted lately to encourage engagement. That's fine but let's not encourage nonsense across the board, pretty please. 😊

0E-8 BEE

Thorough yet concise! Definitely will help any newcomers because a lot of the etiquette isn't etched in stone. I feel if more noobs understood there is a method to the madness (like you explained) we'd have a lot less butt hurt newbies !PIZZA

As it's a way to introduce yourself, it doesn't look good in general if people are doing more than one post using that tag. However, I have seen many users over time that has done more than one introduction post.

lol I've been here for a year now and I never knew to introduce myself with a tag. Can I still do that, a year later? lol. And you can only use that tag once?

The ultimate goal for everyone is to make money.

Think of it like this:
Everyone can make something, but not everyone does for various reasons.

The question is what you do, but also why you do it. If you are looking for short-term gains, only to make something extra each month without sharing anything of value for others, you are not going to be successful in the long haul. You might have some luck every now and then, but it's nothing sustainable, which is also why people seems to give up and leave.

I just answered this question, but yeah, in general, I would say that you use the tag once, as it's your introduction.

However, it's also a matter of what you say, and how you present things. Many others have used the tag more than once.

Thanks for this information, you don’t know how much this has helped me. I wish I came across this when I wrote my introduction post.
Lately I’ve been getting low engagements even as I try to post original content daily and participate in some contests.
It’s frustrating but I won’t give up though 💪🏻
Anticipating part 2 I’m ready to learn more!

Maan! I wish I read this before blogging here. I messed up and totally wasted my shot at the introduceyourself thing.

I'm not so new and quite frankly it has been frustrating. I have had to give up hive twice, but here I am again

Fact clearly stated. You cannot give withdraw in a bank you do not save and when it comes to blogging on hive and making money, these are the savings you have to deposit as a newbie, maybe I should call it investment and not savings because they pay off at the end.

I live in a precarious situation and need help from the community...

Pity never helps anything, as you say it is better to be noticed and shine, reminded me a lot to the series of Inventing Ana hahaha.

I'm glad that I'm fortunate to read this.
At this point for me, I guess what would help me gain visibility is commenting and curator's pick like you explained in your latest post.

I post daily and always make sure that my content is quality.

I will challenge myself to engaging using the leofinance frontend like you said.

Oh dear... I just published my first introduction post a few days ago. 😆
Thanks for the excellent tips for newbie.🙏

Wow , I think I needed to see this, it's just what I have been looking for

0E-8 BEE

I wish, I had seen that post before publishing my first post. !LOL

Is there any chance to make that post yet?

0E-8 BEE

Of course you still can still create an introduceyourself post.

In my opinion, the general rule is just be honest and 'don't take advantage' of the blockchain.

Explain your situation in the post and why you are doing a late introduction post.
