In a weird turn of events, the official Twitter page of the Ukrainian government actually published a tweet requesting donations of Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT to support their cause.
As you probably know, the Ukrainian government is embroiled in a conflict with Russia that has been lingering for many years now. Recently, Putin, the president of Russia, had been expressing his disdain with what he perceives as enemies of Russia coming closer to home.
Ukraine, a country that shares a border with Russia is the bone of contention here. There's obviously more to the story but on the surface of it, what we know for sure is that this has something to do with Ukraine getting in bed with NATO.
Naturally, this situation has been quite horrible for the citizens of Ukraine. Electricity, the Internet and numerous services have been cut off from the people of Ukraine. Citizens are on the run, food shortages and generally speaking, what we have is a monumental clusterfuck.
I'm not sure about how I feel about this situation because on one side, I'd have been happier if governments steer clear of crypto. The entire point of crypto was to get away from governments in the first place.
I was happier when I read accounts of normal people using crypto to escape their reality. These are people that need crypto and not war-hungry governments on either side of the conflict.
Right now, Ukraine is being bandied about as the good guys in everything but then again, the media is dominated by the US and we know where their allegiance lies. Personally, I've always been of the opinion that in war, there are no good or bad guys, there's just pain.
Forgive me for my cynical view but isn't sending crypto to Ukraine basically stoking the flames of war? Also, doesn't this just key into the stereotype that governments have been bashing crypto with in the first place?
Don't get me wrong, I want Ukrainians to get crypto, in fact, I highly encourage sending crypto and supplies to people of Ukraine that need it for food, medicine and transport out of the country, if possible.
I'm not just comfortable with the idea of sending crypto to the government of a country, but that's just me. If you feel differently and would like to support the Ukrainian government in this conflict, then you could send.
When you've been in the crypto industry long enough, you'll know that everything you do will be used against you eventually. Regardless of the gesture, crypto will always end up with a bad rep.
In a couple of years, months or even weeks, you just know that a sitting president or Central bank governor somewhere will bash crypto with this event. I'm predicting that the story will be spun in a way to make it seem like crypto funded this conflict.
The truth is only what we're allowed to see and right now, at least, Ukraine is the oppressed country being invaded by the big bad bullies. However, in the future, if some other information is released that paints Ukraine in another light, it will simply become "Bad guy in the conflict used crypto to oppress good guy" or something of that nature.
One way or the other, crypto will end up with a bad rep. I would have preferred it if crypto wasn't used to fund a war, but instead, go to the majority of citizens that truly need it and certainly don't want this conflict.

The interesting perspective you brought up. In every war, there are many aspects and interests.

Your perspective is quite interesting and I think I mostly agree with it. Crypto has always had bad reputation, so I don't think it would change that much, however!
The most important thing here though, is that the situation ends as soon as possible - can't stand thinking of all the people caught in the middle of war against their will.

Vel, this time I am certain that crypto will have a positive outcome. If anything else is madness.
From earlier gold where to fund big aspects of war now crypto may have taken its place.
Remember that in a war like this Ukrain need as much weapons and supply goods as possible in order to defend their lifes. If crypto can help with the latter I will condemn everyone that tries to tear down crypto😎

Too many people don't have access to their banks again, best way to receive money during this war is through crypto.

They even banned amateur radio transmitting devices. This is crazy. Basically people in Ukraine became unable to communicate with the outside world.
That is. I live in Hungary, and already hundreds of people escaped from Ukraine to my country. I see that the locals are co-operating with each other to help and support them.
I am praying for the people in/from Ukraine. I wish strength, good health and all the best for them.
Hopefully this war soon will be over.
Greetings and much love from Hungary.
Crypto has been a Godsend for the Ukrainian people, with many speaking out that Russia would leverage Bitcoin to avoid sanctions. As it turns out, it is helping average people and enabling the Ukrainian government. Bitcoin is neutral and can be used for good or evil...

This highlights shy cryptocurrencies are needed in times of distress. Hopefully these times will not continue.

Ukraine government don't have choice because their Banks are not working, the only bank they have now is Crypto, that's while they are accepting it. That's the way to show how crypto is going to be accepted by the world soon.

I just also wrote about this and how it is a slippery slope having crypto so involved with politics. It's a very interesting situation

Finally it comes true: Crypto is used to finance terror ;)

😄
people are judgemental more than ever, nowadays. regardless of crypto orientation (which is already having a bad rep because of the low intelligence of the crowds), there must be someone or a group who sees it negatively and with an absence of facts, a crypto-doner will be seen as bad.
