I'm Spending More Time on Hive/Threads Than Twitter - And Why That Matters

I had a great back and forth on threads with @taskmaster4450le recently which inspired this post and I hope others may find it useful or provide opposite viewpoints for me to consider.

The thesis is this - web2 social media may offer expanded reach and maybe more financial return (if you are top tier), but Hive blogging and LeoThreads offer a much higher quality experience through microearning.

Because incentives are aligned across creator, commenter, and curator - I've noticed that the quality of posts and conversation on both Hive (+ LeoFinance by extension) and LeoThreads tends to be a significantly high and at a higher percentage than what I see on web2. When there is an opportunity to earn money, many people will put their best foot forward.

Now this web3 model isn't exactly perfect and is subject to exploit because of course whenever money is involved, there will always be a select group of people that will try to take advantage. Even with that being the case, I haven't come across it as much as I though I would but take this with a grain of salt as I'm still relatively new to the whole blogging and threads experience.

Web2 also is filled with bots and trolls. There is no reason be on your best behavior if you are anonymous or don't care about your pseudonymous reputation. Good posts don't get financially rewarded, but bad posts can't be punished either. Granted, I suppose abuse can happen in terms of punishment when it comes to web3 and I've definitely heard of stories like that around Hive.

So again, it's not perfect but perfect is the enemy of good.

What I've come to really appreciate about the conversations I have on Hive and LeoThreads is that a majority of people generally want to help. This is where I go back to the economic incentives being aligned. If I post a question on Threads, who cares if someone is trying to chase an upvote if they provide me a quality answer. At the end of the day, a very constructive conversation is happening.

Whether or not that conversation is rewarded with some kind of financial benefit is a cherry on top. What we truly want out of our social networks is the ability to have constructive dialog and positive experiences.

So far, in my limited opinion, Hive and LeoThreads are offering that and I am truly enjoying it. I find I am spending way more time here than on Twitter lately and I just hope that as Hive scales up we can keep the quality content and engagement at a very high level.
