Film Review of Ice Cream Man 2026

There's this trend of taking something kids like and turn them into something scary. Movies like "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey" and "Popeye the Slayer Man" are recent examples. There's the classic Stephen King "It" with the killer clown. These movies seem like the inspiration behind "Ice Cream Man". What kid doesn't like ice cream and love the sound of an ice cream truck? But this movie made the ice cream man scary.

Plot Summary

The story takes place in the peaceful community of Bayleen Bay. Everything changes when a strange ice cream vendor arrives in town and begins selling unusual ice cream to the children. At first, the ice cream seems like ordinary. However, the children who ate the ice cream begin transforming into violent and murderous versions of themselves. Think of "28 Days Later" but only kids are affected. Soon, the town was in chaos as the kids turn against their parents, teachers and other adults.

The main character is Jared, a young boy didn't eat the ice cream because of his lactose intolerance. He joins with other kids including his older sister as they try to survive and figure out how to stop the Ice Cream Man.

My Thoughts

While I like horror movies and ready to suspend my disbelief, I find this one is ridiculous. The origin of the Ice Cream Man is rather convenient. Suddenly, there's this necromancer that gave him powers. The lore is rather thin when compared to other films like Elm Street series and IT. I also like injecting humor in horror movies but this one doesn't land right to my taste. I enjoyed the over the top violence of previous movies I reviewed like Baby Sitter and others. This one put me off for some reason. Maybe it's because kids doing the violence or because the adults were too stupid to get victimized. Overall, I didn't like this movie compared to the ones I reviewed before.
