So there I was, living in Oluwo, on the way to Ife, and attending school in Alagbayun, Akobo. If you knew the distance, you'd probably be wondering if I ever got to see my own bed. But hey, that was my daily expedition β a journey that should've come with a map and compass. Trust me, you can lose a higher kg of weight trekking that distance.
Now, this particular day started with a twist. Mom, blessed me, decided she wasn't my personal Uber so she handed me a whopping 500 naira for transport and threw in an extra 100 naira for food β I felt like I had just won the lottery. That was more than I'd ever seen in my pocket, and I strutted to school like a high roller in a casino.
At school, I spent like I was on a shopping spree. Snacks? Bought them. More snacks? Bought them. I was basically my own snack dispensary. I had a plan though β my close friend was gonna give me a ride home( I mean lap me homeπ€€). But as luck would have it, he suddenly had enough money on that day.
As school ended, we boys had the brilliant idea of hitting up the game center called Pentagon. Game after game, and there I was, down to my last 200 naira. It was like a tragic comedy. When evening rolled in, I had explained to my friend I had nothing left, only to be shocked He also said claimed he had just 400naira left. We made a plan to trek to the bus stop with our other colleagues; then from there take taxis home. Trekking, more like storytelling and gisting on foot.
Upon reaching Basorun bus stop, we were faced with an array of taxis, all strictly adhering to a "no-lap" policy. It was a plot twist we hadn't seen coming. Left without a choice, we hatched a new plan β to trek to our intended destination, Iwo Road, starting from Basorun.
Funny enough, the fare for that route had undergone a magical transformation right before our eyes, turning from a humble 100 naira into something that seemed more fitting for a unicorn ride. Welcome to the world of ever-shifting bus fares! (It happens mostly in Ibadan, Oyo state).
When we got to Iwo road, the hunger monster in us struck, and we sacrificed 100 naira for some pufpuf β because clearly, walking makes you ravenous. We asked about the taxi fare from drivers, expecting a pocket-friendly price, only to find out it had also inflated like a balloon at a kid's birthday partyβ¦ itβs so ironic that it was 200naira the previous day ; nobody knew how it skyrocketed to 300naira this particular day .
We huffed and puffed, not with excitement, but from the epic journey. We decided to continue trekking thinking we would see at a lower price in the front ; and there and then, we were moving from one busstop to the other looking for a lesser tfare.
Until, We finally reached the bus stop of our area, sweat-soaked and wondering why we ever thought walking miles after a gaming marathon was a good idea. We decided to crown our efforts with a Pepsi drink, only to find out the last of our money(300naira) had pulled a vanishing act.
And there we stood, two stranded adventurers, debating whether to retrace our steps to iwo road to find the runaway cash or to go home? In the end, we laughed β it was the only way to cope with the cosmic joke that was our school day. And that's how my '600 Naira School Day' became the legend we'd tell our kids, someday. None of you want to know what I went through in the hands of my african mother that fateful day (lol) β¦
I hope you find this funny β¦until the next time β¦ hopefully I donβt misplace more in the future π
Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day.
P.S: Donβt mind my drawings (lol)
Lolz! runaway cash...
I was just imagine the spirit behind the game you used your t-fair to playπ€ and I am very sure you and your friend would lose some kgs π
Ahhh, the spirit was casted way with ritual of beating. I never sense it again
Hmmm... Next time you will never try it. Just because you had enough, you became big boy and was spending just like big man's child, right? Hehehehe.... I can't imagine the flogging your mum would give to you after hearing what you did...
That's a bit blunt ma'am, haha π π
I couldn't lie down for 3 days
