Hello there!
Having completed my earlier travel posts on Japan (Tokyo, Osaka and Hokkaido) and Maldives, I saw that Worldmappin had the Winter Challenge #winterchallenge, so I thought I should give it a shot! Being in a country that is summer all year round, I went through some of previous overseas trips for some winter stuff, and I managed to find some interesting stuff!
This was a trip I took in 2018 and a visit to the city of Sapporo followed right after we left the winter ski resort at Hokkaido, Japan. It's so coincidental that I am writing about Japan again, and it actually goes to show that there's so much beautiful sights across different seasons in Japan.
In this post, I wanted to share something more interesting about winter photos. Instead of the usual winter and snowy photos during the night, I thought of sharing winter from a night perspective. As most of you know, the sun sets much earlier during the winter season, so this meant we would be able to get a glimpse of the night scenery earlier than usual.
I always like to go up tower and rooftop observatories whenever I visit new cities, because I would be able to get a bird's eye view of the entire city. Every city is interesting because every country and city has their own way of planning the city. So, in Sapporo, we headed to the Sapporo TV Tower, which is about 147m tall. As you could see from the time, it's past 1900h in the evening, and the sky is already so dark. Haha.
Sapporo isn't as bustling as big cities like Tokyo, and there aren't many skyscrapers in Japan because of the earthquake risk, so the view is quite standard. What was interesting was the ground was covered with snow and it was quite pretty to see the white layer amidst the buildings and streets.
Look! A Ferris wheel in the distance!
There was also a river nearby and it's pretty unique because it is flanked by rows of road junctions. As usual, the white layer of snow looks cool!
On the another side of the Sapporo TV Tower, there was a park and because it's the Christmas season, you can see lights, Christmas trees, all lining the perimeters of the park. Unfortunately, the weather was just too freezy, especially at night, so there weren't many people walking openly in the streets. Most of the locals I realised were all "hiding" and shopping at the shopping malls as well as walking underground instead of the ground level.
See that Christmas tree in the photo above? We found it when we came down from our visit to the tower. Hehe!
That summed up my interesting and satisfying visit to the Sapporo TV Tower! I hope this provided an interesting perspective of winter photos taken during the night instead.
Stay tuned for more adventures as part of my participation in the #winterchallenge!
