Italy - Exploring Rome’s Icon: The Colosseum

Hello there!

Having completed my earlier travel posts on several interesting countries, such as Japan, Maldives, Indonesia and US, it's probably time to share about my recent Europe trip! If you are keen to find out which countries and cities I visited, you can read the quick summary here.

There is actually a back story behind this trip. My friend and I planned this trip a few years back and it was supposed to take place in Apr 2020, but as most of you would know, Covid 19 pandemic came and we had to cancel the trip due to all the travel restrictions and health advisories. So we planned for this trip in 2025 and it finally materialised!

We moved to the 4th country in our Europe trip after Turkey, France and Monaco, and that is none other than Italy! We took a flight from Nice to Rome, and thereafter took a train from the airport to one of their central train stations, Roma Termini. Fortunately, we booked a hotel that was near the train station so it was just a short walk from the train station to the hotel.

When in Rome, one of the must see attractions is definitely the Colosseum! There was a little drama with our booking actually. We booked our tickets with a third party vendor prior to our trip but we were told of the cancellation at the very last minute. Not quite sure what happened, but very fortunately, we finally to book the tickets on Colosseum's official site! It was later in timing (we would have preferred to go in the morning) but we make the best out of what we have!

When we arrived, not only was it extremely crowded, the weather was pretty hot as well! Maybe that's why there were still some vacancies for the tickets the day before. I have always seen Colosseum in photos but it was very different to see in real life! It was way bigger than what I expected - it's amazing how people in the past built these structures!

Security was tight with all the bag checks but it was still generally smooth and we made it in. Not much shelter over here and we were pretty under the scorching sun most of the time. Here's the view at the lower level.

And finally we were up! Can you see the hot sun? And of course, the crowds!!!

I really enjoyed the view and I dare say there is nowhere on Earth that looks like that except over in Colosseum, Rome, Italy. The history here, the structure here, the culture here, cannot be replicated elsewhere. It is no wonder so many people from all over the world flew here and paid the admission tickets to visit this place.

It was self and easy walking and I walked at own pace in one whole circle. I stopped to take photos at different angles because every view was so unique and looked interesting from the camera. Enjoy the series of photos below!

After taking a ton of photos and selfies, it was finally time to call it a day over at the Colosseum. Peeking through the gaps, I could see more crowds streaming in the direction of Colosseum as well.

This was one of the entrances to the Colosseum, as mentioned, there was really a lot of people here.

It was a hot day and we were all sweaty but it was a memorable trip for me. Seeing the huge Colosseum right in front of me, the feeling was just unbelievable and I never ever thought I would have a chance to be here. The view inside was equally interesting and there was so much history in this structure. Now it's time to hunt for some good pizza for lunch!
