Hello there!
Having completed my earlier travel posts on Japan (Tokyo, Osaka and Hokkaido) and Maldives, in my previous posts, we have moved the journey of our exploration to Indonesia, and covered mostly about Bali. You can find the posts here:
In my previous posts, I shared the magic of Bali's beaches and temples.
Indonesia - Capturing The Magic Of Baliβs Beaches
Indonesia - A Trip To Taman Ayun Temple In Bali
Indonesia - Watching The Sunset At Tanah Lot
Then we moved on to another place in Indonesia, and that's Yogyakarta! Yogyakarta is a very interesting city because there are a lot of heritage stuff within the city, and of course, the first post was about its main attraction, Borobudur!
Indonesia - Discovering Borobudur, The World's Largest Buddhist Temple
Other than the amazing Borobudur, Yogyakarta also has another amazing temple which is Prambanan. So let's take a visit!
We took a taxi from our hotel in the morning and arrived at the compound. This was at the entrance, which is the Prambanan Park.
We made our way along with other visitors towards the Prambanan temple.
Finally we saw the temples! It's interesting that Prambanan is a Hindu temple and it's actually quite near to Borobudur, which is a Buddhist temple. Some people believe that back in the historical years, people of different beliefs already live peacefully alongside one another.
Finally we entered the temple compounds! Similar to Borobudur, Prambanan temples are also on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Look at how majestic these temples were. While they were smaller in size compared to Borobudur, they stood out in quantity and when combined together in a view, it's really breathtaking!
We went closer to the individual temples. Some were really small, while some were bigger in size. Being a popular tourist attraction, it's inevitable that my photos would have some visitors! :P
Unfortunately, these structures have been around for a long time and only a selected few were structurally sound to enter. This was one of them, and we managed to make our way in. The stairways were pretty narrow too, fortunately, I was able to fit in.
By ascending the steps, this was a more close up view of one of the temples. The carvings and structure were really impressive.
This was a bird's eye view from one of the temples too! Not super high but still some distance above the ground.
This was the queue to enter the biggest temple among the ones in the compound. It was a long queue because they could only restrict a fixed number of people inside the temple for safety purposes.
Of course we had to queue! And then we finally made it in! For safety, everyone was also made to wear helmets.
Look! A plane just flew past!
Finally, we ended our visit at the temple compound and we toured the surrounding areas and I thought this was quite a nice angle to take the photo, with the temple right at the end of the path.
It was interesting to visit both Borobudur and Prambanan temples and that made my visit to Yogyakarta worth it already. While I am not a person that is into history that much, seeing this structures and historical sites from a layman perspective and just soaking in the zen-ness is good enough.
So that's all I have today! Have you been to Prambanan before? Let me know in the comments below!
