Hola querido hiver.
¿Has visitado alguna vez un puente que es al mismo tiempo un museo? Con motivo de la Expo 2008 de Zaragoza, la arquitecta Zaha Zadid proyectó un pabellón que unía el recinto donde se celebraba la exposición con la otra orilla del río Ebro. Este singular edificio permaneció cerrado bastantes años por falta de recursos que hicieran viable su explotación hasta que finalmente se ha reconvertido en lo que te presento en esta publicación.
Ambas orillas del río Ebro están acondicionadas para el paseo, por lo que el puente se rodea de zonas verdes y un camino permite pasar por debajo de él. Aunque su forma es de gladiolo, con un solo brazo en la orilla derecha tres en la izquierda, desde la distancia se asemeja más a una serpiente.
El acceso al Mobility City se realiza desde el recinto de lo que fue la Expo 2008. Desde un mismo punto se distinguen tres de construcciones más icónicas: el Palacio de Congresos, la Torre del Agua y la escultura El alma del Ebro del escultor Jaume Plensa.
Lo que comparto en esta publicación es solamente lo que está expuesto de forma permanente salvo algunas excepciones que te iré comentando. Las exposiciones temporales son de pago. Este día visité las dos que había pero las compartiré en publicaciones dedicadas a cada una de ellas.
La entrada es una declaración de intenciones: ahí dentro se mira al futuro. Eso significa mirar al cielo y explorar más allá de nuestro planeta.
Las exposiciones temporales que había en aquel momento estaban dedicadas a vehículos de la marca Opel y a una colección de objetos de Star Wars. También te recibe un robot al que puedes pedir información.
Mi curiosidad me llevó a asomar la cabeza por una puerta abierta y encontré los inicios de la movilidad personal en forma de bicicletas. Un poco desordenados, como puedes ver. La sala se dedica a presentaciones y actos públicos.
En la misma planta baja se exponían los coche de Opel, ahí te dejo un aperitivo. La rampa de subida a la planta superior está adornada con una serie de paneles que explican hitos históricos relacionados con la movilidad. ¿Sabía que el primer patinete eléctrico se fabricó en los primeros años del siglo pasado?
Antes de llegar a la entrada de la segunda exposición hay un espacio interactivo donde los niños estaban haciendo sus pinitos en la conducción. El objeto estrella eran unas gafas 3D que no probé por no esperar la fila. Me llamó la atención cómo aprovechan un hueco para mostrar una obra de Miquel Navarro.
Al salir de nuevo a la parte inferior me dirigí a la orilla contraria por la que entré. Allí continuaba la exposición permanente en la que muchas marcas relacionadas con la automoción y la movilidad mostraban sus novedades y proyectos futuros. La provincia de Zaragoza es sede de una de las fábricas de Opel (ahora Stellantis) en Europa y tiene mucha industria auxiliar alrededor de esta.
Lo que más me gustó de esta parte fueron los drones, algunos con capacidad para transportar personas o especializados en el reparto de medicamentos.

Have you ever visited a bridge that is also a museum? To mark Expo 2008 in Zaragoza, the architect Zaha Hadid designed a pavilion linking the exhibition site with the opposite bank of the River Ebro. This unique building remained closed for several years due to a lack of resources to make its operation viable, until it was finally converted into what I am presenting to you in this post.
Both banks of the River Ebro have been developed for walking, so the bridge is surrounded by green spaces and a path allows visitors to pass underneath it. Although it is shaped like a gladiolus, with a single arm on the right bank and three on the left, from a distance it looks more like a snake.
Access to Mobility City is via the site of the former Expo 2008. From a single vantage point, three of the most iconic structures can be seen: the Conference Centre, the Water Tower and the sculpture The Soul of the Ebro by the sculptor Jaume Plensa.
What I’m sharing in this post is only what’s on permanent display, with a few exceptions that I’ll mention. The temporary exhibitions are ticketed. On this day I visited the two that were on, but I’ll share them in posts dedicated to each one.
The entrance is a statement of intent: inside, you look to the future. That means looking up at the sky and exploring beyond our planet.
The temporary exhibitions on display at the time were dedicated to Opel vehicles and a collection of Star Wars memorabilia. You are also greeted by a robot from whom you can request information.
My curiosity led me to peek through an open door, where I found the beginnings of personal mobility in the form of bicycles. A bit of a mess, as you can see. The room is used for presentations and public events.
Opel cars were on display on the same ground floor; here’s a sneak peek. The ramp leading up to the upper floor is adorned with a series of panels explaining historical milestones related to mobility. Did you know that the first electric scooter was manufactured in the early years of the last century?
Before reaching the entrance to the second exhibition, there is an interactive area where children were taking their first tentative steps at driving. The star attraction was a pair of 3D glasses, which I didn’t try as I didn’t want to queue. I was struck by how they’ve made use of a nook to display a work by Miquel Navarro.
On my way back down to the lower level, I headed to the opposite side of the river from where I had entered. There, the permanent exhibition continued, with many brands related to the automotive and mobility sectors showcasing their latest products and future projects. The province of Zaragoza is home to one of Opel’s (now Stellantis) factories in Europe and has a thriving supporting industry around it.
What I liked most about this section were the drones, some of which are capable of carrying people or specialise in delivering medicines.

Hola Paloma, alucinante... no se me ocurre otra cosa. Gracias por el adelanto de la exposixón de Opel, tiene muy buena pinta. De todo lo que muestras, la arquitectura alucinante de Zaha Hadid, super futurista.... los astronautas (ah! qué gran exposición 😍) hay unoa elementos que mencionas como tus favoritos de la exposicxión que son los drones... probablemente parte importante de la logística y distribución de muchas mercancías.

Hi Paloma—mind-blowing... I can't think of any other word for it. Thanks for the sneak peek at the Opel exhibition; it looks fantastic. Of everything you’ve shown—from Zaha Hadid’s stunning architecture (so incredibly futuristic!) to the astronauts (ah, what a great exhibition! 😍)—there is one element you mentioned as a personal favorite: the drones. They will likely play a major role in the logistics and distribution of a vast array of goods.

Desde las primeras imágenes me transportó. Primero a la estación espacial en Odisea del espacio 2001, y luego los furistas autos me parecieron escapados de aquella serie animada de los Autos Locos. Un paseo muy agradable.
Estaré pendiente de las futuras publicaciones, mientras trato de recordar dónde nace el Ebro. Solo recuerdo que desemboca en el Mediterráneo, en un delta.

Paloma, me encantó esta exposición. Anoche vi que pronto irán a rodear la luna, cuatros astronautas. El 1 de abril, creo, ((((¡mañana!)))) si todo sale bien. La misión se llama Artemis II. Coincide con la luna llena. Y parece que será un hito histórico porque por primera vez va a ir una mujer a una misión lunar.
Además de que han pasado muchos años, medio siglo antes de dar este otro paso hacia el cielo.
