Breathtaking - a visit to Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca, Brazil [EN/PT]

(edited)

[EN]

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to visit the Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca, which is a forest park located in Lima Duarte, in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and I was impressed with the natural beauty of the place, even though it is the second time I have been there. walk around there.

The park is a full protection conservation unit that offers visitors breathtaking natural landscapes, with waterfalls, trails, caves and rock formations that are really beautiful. But there is a small sacrifice: to visit most of these places it is necessary to take exhausting and tiring trails. Nothing that isn't worth it, because, after walking and walking, we come across truly breathtaking landscapes. Effort is a small price for the prize at the end. To tell the truth, if you take the focus off the tiredness and even the difficult path of some parts, we can also perceive the beauty of the path.

It is worth mentioning that to visit Ibitipoca you need to make a reservation. There we will also find camping sites and cabin available for those who want to stay overnight.

Well, now that you know a little about what this natural park is all about, it's time to show you this amazing place. Let's start with the reception and entrance, where we can already notice a little of the landscape that we will find ahead.

[PT]

[EN]
The hardest part is choosing which trail to do. We were four people and we chose to do the "Circuito das Águas". It was a hot day and having the opportunity to cool off a bit during the trail didn't seem like a bad idea. This was one of the three circuits available, 5 km in total (something around 3 miles).

[PT]

[EN]
We start at "Prainha", which is very close, right at the beginning of the trail.

"Prainha" takes its name from being the only part of the river in the "Circuito das Águas" that has a sand bank. Not the prettiest place to take pictures, just a passing place. But, being the closest, it is perfect for children and for people who are not very willing to do the whole trail. A more comfortable and safe place.

[PT]

[EN]

"Prainha" seen from above.

[PT]

[EN]

After "Prainha", we followed the trail and our next destination was "Lago dos Espelhos". To get there, we need to walk approximately another 1 km along a stone trail and slightly steep sections. It was also necessary to go through a dense forest and to spend a few moments there was a very good energy exchange with nature.

[PT]

[EN]

Upon arriving at "Lago dos Espelhos", we are faced with a very atypical water tone: it is dark and very beautiful, it even looks like a Coke - if it tastes the same, I don't know - but it was very cold.

[PT]

[EN]

Now, the most difficult part of the trail in Parque do Ibitipoca has arrived, the "Paredão". This is a difficult part and requires a lot of breath, especially in the beginning, since we will go up and up. The good part is that along this stretch we were able to take beautiful photos and also see a good part of the route we took and will take. There are some lookouts, but you have to be careful, this is a dangerous part of our circuit.

[PT]

A pause for the photo!

Uma pausa para a foto!

Really, this is an impressive place. From up here we can have a better perception of how gigantic, beautiful and perfect nature is. It also reminds us of grandeur and that we should respect it. It is breathtaking!

[PT]

[EN]

Now it's time to get down! Let's go to another amazing place!

The "Ponte de Pedra", in turn, is like a "cave", it has a huge circumference. It's a passage inside the stone wall, which we just passed. The river also passes through this place. Here is another place to stop and admire the work nature has done.

[PT]

[EN]
I would have liked to have gone a little deeper into the cave, however, I did not find a passage that was safe. I had to settle for just these photos. However, there is another smaller cave that we find further ahead.

This is called the "Gruta dos Coelhos".

[PT]
Precisei me contentar com apenas essas fotos.

[EN]
After taking a look around these grottoes and caverns, we headed back to the main trail. Still had a nice way back. But first, take a look at the size of these stones!

[PT]

[EN]
All this above us, forming a kind of wall. It's scary!

At that point we were already at the end of the trail and needed to return to the main route through Circuito da Águas. The walk was still long and the fatigue was getting bigger. On the way back we pass under the "Paredão" and enjoy a good view from a different angle. Here we are closer to the rapids and small waterfalls.

[PT]

[EN]
You can see the wall we passed earlier in the background of the images. We are making a circular path that adds the option of not having to go back the same way. In this way, we are making the journey against the current of the circuit and picking up other stopping points. These last photos are from a late afternoon and we need to walk a little faster to see the sunset from another place!

[PT]

[EN]
And that was the gift left by the sunset: a beautiful view with amazing people by your side! It was worth squeezing the steps.

Finally it was a little over 6 km (almost 4 miles).

[PT]

[EN]
And, to end this day, coffee and a good chat with people I love!

[PT]

The color of the water is really beautiful. I heard that this color is due to the minerals and also
by the vegetation in composition. Thanks for commenting!

I've never been in a similar park before as in my country we are used to call parks those places specially arranged for kids to play and perhaps some benches where to rest from a walk the adults, but damn, the view up there is so breathtaking!

0E-8 BEE

The view is very beautiful and I have the feeling that I couldn't show everything I wanted to. Regarding the term park, it's very funny, I didn't stop to meditate on that perspective of the name. Can we compare it with the meaning of "Jurassic Park"? Maybe!

0E-8 BEE

Absolutely! That makes more sense 🤣

0E-8 BEE

wow... Amazing place.
The first impression when I saw your journey was the boulders, my eyes immediately glanced.
It's so scary as hell.
We wish you a happy ride with your loved ones.

Hahaha that was good! But it's really beautiful and different, I hope I don't go to hell to check if they look alike! LOL
