A trip to Side - Where old town and sea meet (Eng/Deu)

A few weeks ago I already talked about my vacation in Side in a short post on Liketu. Today I would like to share a few more details. I hope you enjoy reading it.

The vacation

I spent a week in Turkey with a friend. We stayed in a hotel near Side. After just 2 days, we realized that a beach vacation wasn't for us and looked at what we could do. There were 2 large markets close to the hotel, but these were very touristy and, in my opinion, were only worthwhile if you wanted to stretch your legs a bit in the evening after dinner. So we wanted to see a bit more than just the small town where our hotel was located. We decided to do most of the sightseeing by bus and book a guided tour.

Manavgat

The first thing we did was take the bus to Manavgat. We took an evening to visit the town and stroll through the streets. Unfortunately, I have to say that Manavgat disappointed me a little. The yellow bridge in Manavgat is worth seeing, especially in the evening, because it is illuminated in all colors, but apart from that there wasn't much to see. The stores didn't have much to offer either, so we didn't go ahead with our original plan to come back again during the day and the short trip was enough for us. There was a small park near the bus stop with a waterfall and monument, which was very nice. Apart from that, I don't think you should plan too much time for this place.

Side

The old town of Side right by the sea is completely different. Here you can take the bus or car to a large parking lot and then either change to an old train or walk to the old town. Both have their charm and are really worthwhile. On foot, you have the opportunity to stop at the ruins of the old city and the theater and visit them or take photos. But the Old Town also definitely has a very special charm. I particularly liked the fact that all the stores are of a very high quality and beautifully decorated and therefore blend in well with the old buildings.

In addition, the glass floors, some of which take you over the ruins of the old city, are a real highlight. Side has a lot to offer both during the day and in the evening. From strolling through the beautiful alleyways and stores to the harbor with its many lovely restaurants and clubs, some of which are right on the harbor promenade, there is something for everyone. If you want to visit the old town of Side, I can only recommend that you plan enough time for this and definitely walk through the town both during the day and with beautiful lighting in the evening. In my opinion, a visit to a club is also worthwhile.

The Jeep Tour

For our guided tour, we decided to explore the area by jeep. On the agenda was a visit to an orange plantation, the Manavgat waterfalls and a boat trip on the Green Lake. The jeep tour was my personal vacation highlight. You saw a lot and the tour was so much fun. However, you should only do the tour if you are reasonably physically fit, like a bit of action and are not afraid of water. The terrain is extremely bumpy in places, there are water fights between the individual jeeps during the ride and you spend a lot of time standing on the seats. But if you like all this, the tour is just right for you. A little tip: Before the start of the tour, you can buy face wipes from the tour operator's office to protect your face from the dust. Either take a cloth with you or buy one here. Your airways will thank you after the tour.

The orange plantation

After we were picked up from the hotel and made a quick stop at the tour office, we set off. Our first stop was the orange plantation. Here you could take a look at the plantation and the old farming equipment and buy fresh juices. But don't worry, no one will talk you into buying anything and the stop is quite short, so you can really make the most of your time.

The Manavgat waterfalls

After the orange plantation, we continued towards the Manavgat waterfalls. Here you have to pay a small entrance fee and can then get right up to the waterfalls and observe them from different perspectives and up close. In my opinion, this is a really worthwhile excursion destination. The waterfalls are incredibly beautiful, the water has a breathtaking color and even though it is of course a popular destination, the crowds were still limited, at least during our visit, and we were able to see everything without stress.

The Green Lake

After countless kilometers through the mountains and the terrain, as well as a few stops to take in the landscape and the canyon, we drove to Green Lake for lunch and a subsequent boat tour. The lunch was not exceptionally good, but ok. But the boat trip was really nice. You can really relax and unwind here. We also had the opportunity to cool off in the lake. Here's a tip from me: it's best to only go into the lake if you're a good swimmer. For one thing, the water is surprisingly cold. Secondly, there are very strong currents in the lake. Two of our bad swimmers simply jumped into the water and unfortunately our tour operator didn't point out the current beforehand, so my friend and I had to rescue one of them because he had drifted too far out. Even for us as good swimmers, it was difficult to get against the current, so some of the crew had to help afterwards. So be more careful here and look out for yourself and your fellow travelers.

Conclusion

All in all, our week in Side was a wonderful and relaxing vacation. Nevertheless, a classic Turkish beach vacation is no longer for me. The places are too touristy for me and the beaches are too crowded. If that doesn't bother you or if you even like vacationing in more touristy places, you can definitely have a great time here and find enough activities to make your vacation your own. If you ever travel to Side, I can only recommend a visit to the old town and a jeep tour.

Hallo liebe Pinmapples,

vor einigen Wochen habe ich bereits in einem kurzen Beitrag auf Liketu über meinen Urlaub in Side gesprochen. Heute möchte ich hierzu noch ein paar Details berichten. Ich wünsche Euch viel Spaß beim Lesen.

Der Urlaub

Insgesamt war ich eine Woche gemeinsam mit einer Freundin in der Türkei. Gewohnt haben wir in einem Hotel in der Nähe von Side. Bereits nach 2 Tagen haben wir gemerkt, dass ein reiner Strandurlaub nichts für uns ist und haben geschaut, welche Unternehmungen wir machen können. Direkt in der Nähe vom Hotel gab es zwar 2 größere Märkte, diese waren aber sehr touristisch und haben sich aus meiner Sicht nur gelohnt, um sich abends nach dem Essen noch ein bisschen die Beine zu vertreten. Wir wollten also noch ein bisschen mehr sehen als nur den kleinen Ort indem unser Hotel lag. Entschieden haben wir uns dann das meiste mit dem Bus zu erledigen und eine geführte Tour zu buchen.

Manavgat

Als erstes sind wir mit dem Bus nach Manavgat gefahren. Hierzu haben wir uns einen Abend Zeit genommen, um die Stadt zu besuchen und dort ein bisschen durch die Straßen zu schlendern. Leider muss ich sagen, dass Manavgat mich persönlich etwas enttäuscht hat. Die gelbe Brücke in Manavgat ist zwar vor allem abends sehenswert, weil sie dann in allen Farben angestrahlt und beleuchtet wird, abgesehen davon gab es aber nicht viel zu sehen. Auch die Läden hatten wenig zu bieten, sodass wir unseren ursprünglichen Plan noch einmal am Tag wiederzukommen nicht umgesetzt haben und uns der kurze Ausflug gereicht hat. In der Nähe der Bushaltestelle gab es noch einen kleinen Park mit einem Wasserfall und Denkmal, der sehr schön war. Ansonsten solltet ihr für den Ort aus meiner Sicht aber nicht allzu viel Zeit einplanen.

Side

Ganz anders ist die Alte Stadt von Side direkt am Meer. Hier könnt ihr mit dem Bus oder Auto bis zu einem großen Parkplatz fahren und dann entweder in eine alte Bahn umsteigen oder zu Fuß in die Alte Stadt gehen. Beides hat seinen Charme und lohnt sich wirklich. Zu Fuß habt ihr die Möglichkeit an den Ruinen der alten Stadt und des Theaters anzuhalten und diese zu besichtigen oder Fotos zu machen. Aber auch die Alte Stadt hat definitiv einen ganz besonderen Charme. Besonders gut hat mir gefallen, dass die ganzen Läden sehr hochwertig und schöne aufbereitet sind und sich damit gut in die alten Gebäude einfügen.

Außerdem sind die teilweise vorhandenen Glasböden mit denen Mann über die Ruinen der alten Stadt geführt wird wirklich ein Highlight. Side hat damit sowohl tagsüber als auch in den Abendstunden viel zu bieten. Vom schlendern durch die wunderschönen Gassen und Läden, bis hin zum Hafen mit seinen vielen schönen Restaurants und den Clubs, die teilweise direkt an der Hafenpromenade sind, ist für jeden was dabei. Wenn ihr die Alte Stadt von Side besuchen wollt, kann ich Euch nur empfehlen hierfür genug Zeit einzuplanen und auf jeden Fall sowohl bei Tag als auch mit schöner Beleuchtung am Abend durch die Stadt zu laufen. Auch ein Clubbesuch lohnt sich aus meiner Sicht.

Die Jeep Tour

Für unsere geführte Tour haben wir uns entschieden mit dem Jeep die Gegend zu erkunden. Auf dem Plan stand der Besuch auf einer Orangenplantage, die Manavgat Wasserfälle und eine Bootstour auf dem Grünen See. Die Jeep Tour war mein persönliches Urlaubshighlight. Man hat viel gesehen und die Tour hat unfassbar viel Spaß gemacht. Allerdings solltet ihr die Tour nur machen, wenn ihr körperlich einigermaßen fit seid, ein bisschen Action mögt und nicht wasserscheu seid. Das Gelände ist nämlich streckenweise extrem holprig, zwischen den einzelnen Jeeps werden während der Fahrt Wasserschlachten gemacht und man steht viel auf den Sitzen. Wenn euch das alles zusagt, ist die Tour aber genau das richtige für Euch. Kleiner Tipp: Vor dem Start der Tour könnt ihr im Büro des Touranbieters Tücher für das Gesicht als Schutz vor dem Staub kaufen. Nehmt Euch entweder selbst ein Tuch mit oder kauft hier eins. Eure Atemwege werden es Euch nach der Tour danken.

Die Orangenplantage

Nachdem wir aus dem Hotel abgeholt wurden und einen kurzen Stop am Tourbüro gemacht haben, ging es auch schon los. Unser erster Halt war die Orangenplantage. Hier konnte man sich die Plantage und die alten Landwirtschaftsgeräte anschauen und frische Säfte kaufen. Aber keine Sorge, niemand bequatscht Euch irgendwas zu kaufen und der Aufenthalt ist recht kurz, sodass man die Zeit wirklich gut nutzen kann.

Die Manavgat Wasserfälle

Nach der Orangenplantage ging es weiter in Richtung Manavgat Wasserfälle. Hier müsst ihr einen kleinen Eintritt zahlen und könnt dann direkt an die Wasserfälle heran und diese aus verschiedenen Perspektiven und nächster Nähe beobachten. Aus meiner Sicht wirklich ein lohnenswertes Ausflugsziel. Die Wasserfälle sind unglaublich schön, das Wasser hat eine atemberaubende Farbe und auch wenn es natürlich ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel ist, hat sich die Menschenmasse zumindest bei unserem Besuch noch in Grenzen gehalten und wir konnten alles ohne Stress anschauen.

Der Grüne See

Nach unzähligen Kilometern durch die Berge und das Gelände, sowie einigen Stops um die Landschaft und den Canyon zu betrachten, sind wir zum Mittagessen und für eine anschließende Bootstour an den Grünen See gefahren. Das Mittagessen war nicht außergewöhnlich gut, aber ok. Dafür war die Bootstour wirklich schön. Hier könnt ihr nochmal richtig entspannen und die Seele baumeln lassen. Wir hatten auch die Möglichkeit uns im See abzukühlen. Hier ein Hinweis meinerseits: Geht am besten nur als guter Schwimmer in den See. Zum einen ist das Wasser überraschend kalt. Zum anderen gibt es in dem See sehr starke Strömungen. Bei uns sind zwei schlechte Schwimmer einfach ins Wasser gesprungen und leider wurde von unserem Touranbieter vorher auch nicht auf die Strömung hingewiesen, sodass meine Freundin und ich einen der beiden retten mussten, da er zu weit rausgetrieben ist. Selbst für uns als gute Schwimmerinnen war es schwer gegen die Strömung anzukommen, sodass hinterher noch welche von der Crew helfen mussten. Seid hier also lieber vorsichtiger und achtet auf Euch und die Mitreisenden.

Fazit

Alles in allem war die eine Woche in Side ein schöner und entspannender Urlaub. Nichtsdestrotz ist ein klassischer Türkei Strandurlaub nichts mehr für ich. Dafür sind mir die Orte zu touristisch geprägt und die Strände zu überfüllt. Wen das nicht stört oder wer sogar gerne an touristischeren Orten Urlaub macht, kann hier auf jeden Fall eine schöne Zeit verbringen und findet auch genug Aktivitäten um seinen Urlaub nach eigenem Wunsch zu gestalten. Solltet ihr einmal nach Side reisen, kann ich Euch den Besuch in der Alten Stadt sowie eine Jeeptour nur ans Herz legen.
