Exploring the National Museum of Cebu | A Journey Through Cebu's History

I've been planning to visit the National Museum of Cebu for the long time, but somehow, it never pushed through. Finally, today, I got to visit it with my mom! Come and join us as we explore this beautiful museum.

The National Museum of Cebu is located in Cebu City, right beside Plaza Independencia. Interestingly, this building used to serve as the Malacañang sa Sugbo, but it was later converted into a museum, preserving both its history and cultural significance.

During the administration of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, it was officially converted into a museum. That's why, as soon as you enter the building, you'll see a commemorative marker dedicated by the National Museum of the Philippines to former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, recognizing the building's conversion into the National Museum of Cebu.

As soon as we entered the gate, we noticed that it wasn't just Filipinos visiting the museum. There were also quite a lot of Korean tourists. Before entering, everyone attended a short orientation where the staff explained the museum's guidelines. One of the rules they emphasized was that taking videos inside the museum is not allowed.

One of the things I love most about visiting museums is that admission is usually free. You get the chance to learn about history and discover stories from the past while enjoying the experience, all without spending a single peso. It's a great way to have fun, learn something new, and appreciate our culture at the same time.

So finally, we're inside the building, let's start exploring!

As soon as we step inside, we're welcomed by a stunning grand chandelier. One of the things I loved most about it was how perfectly it complemented the building's elegant interior and classic color palette.

As we made our way to the other side, we were greeted by several large oil-on-canvas paintings depicting significant moments in Cebu's history. Among them were the Presentation of the Santo Niño to the people of Cebu, the Death of Ferdinand Magellan, and the Planting of the Cross, each beautifully capturing these important historical events.

We were instructed to follow only the rooms that were open to visitors. After admiring the paintings, we came across a large open doorway. As soon as we stepped inside, I was amazed by how colorful the room was.

On one side, there was a display featuring the Cebu tamaraw. I was truly impressed because the forest backdrop looked incredibly realistic, it almost felt like the animal was in its natural habitat. The combination of the colors, lighting, and overall presentation made the exhibit even more stunning.

This section highlights the Cebu tamaraw that was once found in Cebu. Sadly, it's no longer something you can see today, making the exhibit a fascinating reminder of the island's rich natural history.

After exploring that section, we moved on to the next area and came across an interactive map. It was fun to watch because many of the visitors were enjoying it and trying out its interactive features.

On the other side of the room, there were beautifully designed glass display cabinets showcasing different types of rocks, minerals, and energy resources. The exhibits were neatly arranged, making them both informative and visually appealing.

Another fascinating section of the museum showcases the history of mineralization in Cebu, including information about the Lutopan Diorite. I found this exhibit very informative because it gives visitors a deeper understanding of Cebu's geological history and natural resources.

If you're someone who wants to learn more about Cebu, its history, culture, and natural heritage, the National Museum of Cebu is definitely the place to visit. It's no surprise that many foreign tourists come here to better understand the place they're exploring. During our visit, we even saw quite a number of Korean visitors taking their time to explore the exhibits.
