Happy Saturday Hivers!
One of the well-known places in Siargao is the bridge where many people go skateboarding and hang out, especially in the late afternoon. It is a popular spot for both locals and tourists, particularly foreigners who enjoy spending time there. Because of the lively atmosphere and the number of people who gather, it has become one of the most vibrant and popular places to visit in Siargao. People who hang out in the area also don’t have to worry about getting hungry because there are many street vendors there selling different kinds of food.

In Hilongos, Leyte, there is a place they call “Little Siargao.” During the late afternoon, many people gather and hang out along the baywalk. There are also many vendors selling different kinds of food, so visitors can easily buy snacks while enjoying the place.

Most of all, many young people go there to skateboard. Some are already skilled at skating, while others are still practicing and learning.

Yesterday, my mother and I planned to visit the baywalk, which they call the “Little Siargao” of Hilongos. Since we came from the next town, we went there a bit early, around 4 PM. When we arrived at the baywalk, it was still very quiet. There were only a few people hanging out in the area.

Since it was still quiet on that side, we went to the other side instead. There were already more people there because several vendors were selling fresh fish. Many buyers had already gathered there because the fish was cheaper compared to the market.

You might wonder why there are many pump boats along the road. The fishermen do not have a proper place to dock their pump boats, so they are allowed to keep them there. Because of this, when the road was built, it was designed with a passageway for the pump boats so the fishermen would not have difficulty moving them.

When we arrived on that side, only vendors and buyers were there. There were no young people skateboarding yet, maybe because it was still early and they were probably still in school. So my mother and I decided to go back to the other side.

While waiting, we bought some boiled peanuts. There were many vendors along the side selling peanuts cooked in different ways. My mother and I relaxed while eating and enjoying the beautiful view of the sea.

After a few minutes, we started to see some young people arriving with their skateboards, wearing their shoes and getting ready to skate. They soon began enjoying themselves while skating around. Some of them were already very skilled and could balance well without any support, while others were still learning and needed help from their friends as they practiced.

The place slowly started to become livelier. It turns out that it is nicer to visit later in the afternoon because more people arrive, making the place more vibrant. It is also more enjoyable to watch the young people happily skate around. Aside from that, more vendors start to appear in the evening.
When we were about to go home, we noticed that even more vendors were already setting up their tables and chairs for their food stalls.
Overall, the experience showed how simple places can become lively gathering spots for the community. From fishermen and vendors to families and young skaters, everyone finds a reason to spend time there. The baywalk of Hilongos, or “Little Siargao,” may be simple, but the people, the view of the sea, and the relaxing atmosphere make it a special place to visit.
