Sounds like a wonderful place to return (actually massive) to, now you know how the 'games' played to get bookings ahead of time made me smile....

We actually try not to do that with our bookings. I just make sure I carve out some time when things open up. It's not too bad when it is just us, but I am usually booking with our friends too, so finding two prime sites next to each other can be hard. That is a good point about the poison ivy, we didn't have too many people cutting through our site this time.
Out of season should give you excellent pickings.
South African lizard brain always goes to safety and security, we use natural plants around gardens with thorns or other nasty things you don't wish to walk into at night 🙃
