Unity in Diversity: Discovering The Rich Land - Wao, Lanao del Sur, PH

In my last blog, which was about the beautiful landscapes of Kalilangan, Bukidnon, our main destination was Wao, Lanao del Sur. We had to pass by Kalilangan to reach Wao.

In this travel blog, allow me to take you to the rich land, Wao, Lanao del Sur.

Wao belongs to BARMM, or known as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao. It is located in the first district of Lanao del Sur. Wao is the only Christian-majority municipality in its province. Wao means "a high place".

It is a diverse community with different ethnolinguistic groups such as Hiligaynon, Cebuano, Ilocano, Maranao, Talaandig, and Tagalog. The main or most used dialect in this beautiful municipality is Ilonggo.

Now, let's go to what we can see when we are in Wao. Unexpectedly, Wao is the total opposite of how I pictured it in my head before we reached the place. I was thinking that it is wrapped with mountains, no restaurants, and crowded sidewalks in a small space of land. I was wrong!

Wao is a thousand hectares of rich and verdant flat, rolling, and steep land. It is so rich in natural resources and vast, fertile lands suited for different crops.

In the heart of the town, you can see a small city-like place where establishments and buildings stand. Numerous gasoline stations, a big hospital, banks, restaurants, water district, groceries, big schools and colleges, churches of different sects, a wide children's park and plaza, a big municipal hall, and more.

Who would have thought that such a far and long journey over rolling lands and vast plains would take us to a place so modernized and industrialized? The unforgettable "banana toron", the best among torons I tried, was found in Wao at a very affordable price with such a different crisp and aroma.

One of the distinct features of this municipality is that it is very clean, and people are warm and respectful. They answered us respectfully when we asked for directions, and others even accompanied us. They are very honest and always warm and hospitable to visitors. We can see that this place is well organized, safe, and has peace and order amidst its diverse inhabitants.

We can see how people help each other and live in harmony and peace. They respect each other's cultural diversity, and it is so wonderful to see. I love this place even if it was my very first time visiting Wao. The town stands as a beautiful example of unity in diversity, where different cultures live together in harmony. This beautiful piece of land is not only blessed with an abundance of food products but also blessed with love among its community.
