Hello @worldmappin. Hello Hivers.
Here we are again with another escape. We were done with the swimming pools and lake, so let's climb the verdant slopes of GMETV or the Garden of Malasag Eco-Tourism Village for something new and magical. And to be honest, this place is worth sharing.
A hidden sanctuary where culture, nature, and breathtaking views converge - welcome to Garden of Malasag Eco-Tourism Village.
How to get here?
The journey starts with a scenic drive up the rolling hills of the Cugman Watershed in Cagayan de Oro. The city was slowly fading behind, replaced by lush greenery and the scent of damp earth and fresh green leaves. As you arrive, the cool breeze greets you, and so does the panoramic view of Macajalar Bay, stretching below.
Gardens of Malasag is a park of 2.2 hectares bio-sanctuary, carefully crafted to reflect the rich cultural heritage of Northern Mindanao and its tapestry.
What ethnic village showcases?
One of the most captivating elements of GMETV is its ethnic village showcase, traditional houses representing various ethnic groups of Northern Mindanao, such as Higaonon, Maranao, and Talaandig people. These houses are not just mere displays or replicas, but they are testaments to the living culture of these people.
Visitors can witness the traditional crafts of these natives, like indigenous weaving, and tribal designs etched in wood and fabrics. Check-ins and overnight stays are welcome in these houses for you to experience a night of relaxation and cultural immersion. An immersive experience for anyone who happens to visit here, reminding them that the deep cultural roots are still thriving in the area today.
Nature's Healing Touch
Every path of the Gardens of Malasag is an adventure. Flowering plants are where bees and butterflies dance from bloom to bloom, towering trees and medicinal herbs line up through the walkways. Native birds' songs filled the air, and there is a spot under the mini forest which has collections of wild animals, from monkeys to snakes, you can feed the rabbits and talk with the parrots.
Reminders for the Travelers:
Best time to visit: Anytime of the day. If you didn't bring any food, don't worry, a cozy cafe provides you with your favorite meals from breakfast to dinner.
What to bring: Comfortable shoes, a camera, and a respectful curiosity for local culture. Don't forget your swimwear, GMETV has a nice, cold pool for you to enjoy.
GMETV is operated by the Philippine Tourism Authority, that eco-tourism and cultural preservation. It advises visitors not only to enjoy the surroundings but also to reflect on our role in protecting nature and honoring tradition.
Whether you're a nature lover, a cultural explorer, or simply a wanderer seeking tranquility, the Gardens of Malasag Eco-Tourism Village offers a soul-refreshing escape. Itβs a living reminder that true magic happens when culture and nature coexist, where the earth still whispers stories, and the wind sings the songs of the past.
