Hello, Hivers! What's up for today? I hope all is well and good! Join me as I stroll through the Creekside charms of Old Dubai in Al Seef but before that, a short story about why we ended up in this place. We didn't plan anything too fancy, just a simple family day out. We decided to have a hearty late lunch at Rayan's Mandi Restaurant. As we were exchanging suggestions about where to go next, my nephew told us that Old Dubai was near the area. So we decided to spend the afternoon in that area. We drove just 10 minutes away. We parked at the Baniyas Marine Transport.
We took a ferry and it was 5 minutes ride to reach Old Dubai and it cost 2 dirhams. It offers a scenic ferry boat ride across Dubai Creek. A quick charming way to step into the city's rich history. This Creekside district beautifully blends Old Dubai vibes with a modern twist.
The moment we stepped into the pathways of Al Seef, it was like time slows down. The air shifted to a less hurried walk. Our feet felt worn and welcoming and guiding us gently into the heart of Al Seef. The structures were designed like a traditional Emirati neighborhood with coral-colored walls, wooden lattices, wind towers and narrow alleys. There's a quiet energy to Al Seef, nostalgic but not outdated. It feels alive. We just walk letting the surroundings lead us. My son captured nature and rustic views and my nephews kept dashing off to peek into mini shops. There were small stalls where you could smell fresh popcorn in one corner and oud in another corner creating a unique fusion of warmth and mystique fragrance that fills the air.
We stumble across something that makes us all pause. A small ice cream stall but what caught our attention the name of the stall is Camelicious. Of course, we got to try it. We ordered different kinds of flavors. Mine was vanilla and for my husband was strawberry. It doesn't look any different from traditional ice cream. It has the same enticing creamy texture. I snapped a photo of my husband while having his ice cream, He's too serious, maybe thinking what the difference of the usual ice cream that he always had.
As we stroll more, the turning charm of Al Seef, with lots of shops, beautifully fuses the past with the present. You will discover traditional souks selling authentic Arabian jewelry, spices, incense and perfumes. There are shops that also provide traditional home decor, such as lamps, wooden carvings and colorful rugs. For a modern twist, contemporary stores are offering fashionable clothing and accessories. the blend of old-world charm and modern offerings makes Al Seef a unique shopping experience.
This particular shop Harat Al Zman Novelties Trading is a hidden gem that captures the spirit of old and new Dubai. This shop specializes in distinctive souvenirs, novelty items and culturally inspired gifts. From traditional pots to peculiar souvenirs and handcrafted decors, each item sparks remorse or delight a curious traveler. The ambiance is relaxed and inviting, encouraging visitors to take their time and explore. This store provides a sentimental yet fresh retail experience that stays with you after you leave.
As we continued exploring the place, I was amazed at how this architecture can preserve history while embracing the present. Yet beyond their nostalgic appearance, these buildings now serve modern purposes.
Wandering through the narrow lane, you'll find murals that splashes of heritage painted on sun-worn walls and bring vibrant colors. The rustic pots simply stand as silent witnesses to time.
The Bakhoor burner has been a primary traditional Arabic culture for centuries. It is elaborately designed to burn scented incense sticks releasing a soothing and tempting aroma into the air. These Bakhoor burners hold a heavy meaning in Arabic culture and represent hospitality, community, and spiritual connection. This gesture is meant to signal a welcome and respect.
The traditional clothes. The Emirati men's traditional clothes is known as Kandura or Dishdasha, which is a long white robe. The Emirati woman is the Abaya, an elegant-fitting flowing black cloak.
As the sun started to dip down we decided to go home. We rode again to the ferry boat going back to Baniyas Marine Port. I took a snap of the sun and said goodbye to the structures of Old Dubai. The place doesn't just scream for attention, it whispers. the heartbeat of vintage Dubai, steady and proud, still echoing in every step, every scoop and every shared smile.
