A Sweet Getaway at the Strawberry Farm in La Trinidad, Benguet

(edited)

This time I want to share with you the Strawberry Farm I visited last Tuesday in La Trinidad, Benguet. It’s a sudden plan when I thought of buying strawberries for my uncle who has having dialysis as the doctor said that strawberries can lower creatinine. Because it’s sunny at that time too, I’m delighted to go and I want it really. My last visit there was last year in the month of December, perhaps the weather wasn’t good – it was cloudy and the picture I took before wasn’t lively.

To get there, I have to take two rides wherein I took a ride at the terminal In Camp 8 going to town, then, I transferred to another jeepney going to La Trinidad. By the way, I was early when I went there because the weather was good and I want to take clear photos of the surroundings. I thought that it would take me thirty minutes of ride but it took me one hour to get there due to heavy traffic. Well, it was school days, and work days that’s why.

THE ENTRANCE

Another reason why I went at the Strawberry Farm was to check how was everything as the typhoon Opong strike. As always, the Strawberry Farm experienced flood and it saddening because the crops submerged wherein a lot of crops cannot revive and it’s a loss for the farmers who are tenants there. On the other hand, when this happen, the price of the strawberries gets higher, likewise other vegetables being sell.
When I got there, the sky was blue and I’m amazed how the day it was. There were few people and other stalls weren’t filled with products as for sale. And, when I gazed towards the stall, the seller welcomed me with warm smile and said, “Pasalubong, Ma’am,” I just smiled. Well, a lot of souvenirs to choose – handicraft items like woven products, knitted items, crocheted items, keychains, brooms, etc. They also sell strawberry wines, jams, and of course the fresh strawberries, vegetables, and fruits, and a lot more. The most exciting part is, STRAWBERRY FRUIT PICKING which you can do if you want to pick. The amount you can pay is 250 per kilo.

As it was Tuesday, few tourists I spotted taking pictures while some were eating dirty strawberry ice cream. Talking about this dirty strawberry ice cream, it’s one of what they sell. It’s really made from strawberries, and there was other flavor you can add and it’s good to eat when sunny day.
I wanted to try strawberry picking but my budget wasn’t enough so I just buy an amount of 100 pesos.

Then, I went to the other side of the strawberry where there’s another landmark structure of it. Mostly, they sell strawberry wines and you can do free taste. I was tired of walking so I decided to stop and took a rest, then buy strawberry ice cream.
I asked the owner if it’s okay for me to go to the area where they planted strawberries but he said, they just sprayed it with pesticides and the smell wasn’t good. But he suggested me to go to the other field which they didn’t put some pesticides if I’m willing. However, I was tired of walking, I just replied him that it’s okay. Another thing was that, the sun was scorching and I didn’t bring an umbrella.

The strawberry farm is wide which is surrounded with cool mountains and houses. And you can see VALLYWOOD as one of the tourist attractions in La Trinidad. Maybe, I would ask my sister to accompany me to go there next time when both of us has free time.
Moving on, I just continued my walk and watch those beloved farmers planting the strawberries and those vegetables. There were some parts of the field wherein strawberries just planted and others have fruits already. The lettuce also is ready to harvest but I noticed that some were wilted, maybe due to the typhoon Opong. As I already roamed around,I felt exhausted,,so I decided to come back home. I took a ride again in a jeepney going back. It was a quick escaped, however, I got the chance to visit again this strawberry farm in third time around.
******************************************************************************And let me share with you some photos I took when I visited it the second time around last year (December). It was really cloudy and seemed to rain at that time, and some strawberries were started to have fruits and these lettuces grown healthy.

Visiting and supporting local farmers always rewarding, with inclement weather of late the farmers really need us to go out and visit.

Lovely photography in the region, thanks for taking us along to see what you experienced.
