Hoy les vengo hablar sobre mi experiencia en El Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca más conocido como "El morro Santiaguero" :

📍- Cuba , Santiago de Cuba.

• El Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca es una fortaleza militar española que vigilaba la entrada de la Bahía de Santiago de Cuba desde lo alto de un escarpado rocoso. Su historia es un fascinante viaje de la arquitectura militar , que la han convertido en uno de los monumentos históricos más importantes de la Cuba y Patrimonio de la humanidad.

• Origen y Construcción ( siglo XVII )

• Fue construido por la necesidad de protección que tenía el puerto santiaguero, ya que constantemente era atacado por corsarios y piratas , así como de otra potencias europeas , llevó entonces al gobernador de la provincia Pedro de la Roca y Borja , a impulsar la construcción de la gran fortaleza en 1638 .

• ¿ Cuál fue mis experiencia ?

• Hablar de ella ha sido todo un reto, no hallaba palabras para describir tan majestuosa fortificación. Mi viaje fue en familia, lo que hizo la experiencia inmejorable.

• Al llegar al lugar, todo me transportó al pasado; fue como volver a vivir. Aquello me recordó cuando mi hermana y yo jugábamos a los piratas: ella era la duquesa y yo el malvado corsario. Mirar aquellas espadas, esas escopetas y la maqueta del lugar me llenó de emoción. Cada rincón me contaba una historia.

• Pasamos por un puente de aproximadamente 5 metros de altura, desde donde podías apreciar las horas de trabajo y la dedicación que invirtieron en él. Y no sé cómo explicarles la manera en que esa madera se mantiene intacta, considerando que desde entonces no ha sido remodelada.

• Lo que tiene todo el sentido del mundo si tenemos en cuenta a quién se enfrentaban. ¿Y cómo no construirlo así? Si tenían como enemigos a los piratas más temidos del Caribe, ejemplo de ello: Piet Heyn, Roch "El Brasiliano" y Henry Motgan, entre otros.

• Ese día nos cogió las 12:00 de la tarde, justo a la hora de tocar la campana. El señor a cargo me dio el privilegio de sonarla. Por cierto, un dato muy importante es que aún hoy el pueblito aledaño se guía por el sonido del campanario.

• Un rato más tarde, la guía nos enseñó la Capilla del Santo Cristo, donde vivían los soldados y el capellán. El lugar, a pesar del tiempo, sigue conservando esa afinidad protectora y espiritual.

• Algo muy interesante es que desde el restaurante más cercano podíamos ver hacia el horizonte el mar, que se dirige en dirección a las aguas jamaiquinas, a tan solo 134 millas náuticas.

• Una de mis partes más agradables y relajantes fue admirar las vistas increíbles que nos proporcionaba la fortificación.

Today I'm going to tell you about my experience at El Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca, better known as "El Morro Santiaguero":

📍Cuba , Santiago de Cuba.

• The Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca is a Spanish military fortress that guarded the entrance to Santiago de Cuba Bay from atop a steep rocky outcrop. Its history is a fascinating journey through military architecture, which has made it one of Cuba's most important historical monuments and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

• Origin and Construction (17th century)

• It was built due to the need for protection of the port of Santiago, as it was constantly attacked by privateers and pirates, as well as other European powers. This led the governor of the province, Pedro de la Roca y Borja, to promote the construction of the great fortress in 1638.

• What was my experience like?

• Talking about it has been quite a challenge; I couldn't find the words to describe such a majestic fortification. My trip was with my family, which made the experience unbeatable.

• When I arrived, everything transported me back to the past; it was like reliving it. It reminded me of when my sister and I used to play pirates: she was the duchess and I was the wicked corsair. Looking at those swords, those shotguns, and the model of the place filled me with emotion. Every corner told me a story.

• We crossed a bridge approximately 5 meters high, from where you could appreciate the hours of work and dedication that went into it. And I don't know how to explain how that wood has remained intact, considering that it hasn't been remodeled since then.

• Which makes perfect sense when you consider who they were up against. And how could they not build it that way? Their enemies were the most feared pirates in the Caribbean, for example: Piet Heyn, Roch "The Brazilian," and Henry Motgan, among others.

• That day it was noon, right at the time the bell was rung. The man in charge gave me the honor of ringing it. Incidentally, a very important fact is that even today the neighboring village is guided by the sound of the bell tower.

• A little while later, the guide showed us the Chapel of the Holy Christ, where the soldiers and the chaplain lived. Despite the passage of time, the place still retains that protective and spiritual affinity.

• Something very interesting is that from the nearest restaurant we could see the sea towards the horizon, heading in the direction of Jamaican waters, just 134 nautical miles away.

• One of the most enjoyable and relaxing parts was admiring the incredible views that the fortification provided.
