Destination Mendoza AR: Buenos Aires 3 - Tortoni, El Caminito, La Boca

Welcome, fellow Hivers, it is with great pleasure that I am on vacation from work, and from Hive too.

But a real vacation requires a minimum of effort to record the moments that will last forever. This is another post in a series of posts entitled Destination Mendoza where I will be traveling through Argentina for the second time.

Featured Post:

And we continue with our return to Brazil!

Day 6 - August 19 - Café Tortoni and El Caminito

We are back in Buenos Aires, and we have a special day to visit the most famous tourist attractions!

Our breakfast was planned to take place in one of the most beautiful, classic and traditional coffee shops in Buenos Aires: Café Tortoni.

This coffee shop is located near Casa Rosada, Plaza de Mayo, which made it easy for us to get there on foot, since we were staying in the area.

We managed to get in without waiting in line, but we spent some time waiting for a spot the first time we were in Buenos Aires, so plan accordingly!

The entrance is majestic!!

In its description, Caé Tortoni says it is the oldest coffee shop in Buenos Aires, and we can see from the architecture of the place that much has been preserved from the last century, where it was originally built. The atmosphere is elegant and majestic, despite the obvious renovations over time, you can notice the details of the building, the bar and its counter, the furniture and ornaments.

Coffee shop counter: it hasn't been modernized, it's still in use!

With the addition of a draft beer tap (chopp, for Brazilians), little has changed at the old counter. The same can be said of the menu, where we chose the house classic: "cafe con leche, tostado, mateca, duce de leche, esprimido de naranza". I tried to improvise in Spanish, as I'm not fluent. Correct me in the comments.

Classic breakfast at Café Tortoni in Buenos Aires!

I added 4 medialunas that are simply wonderful. Something that is not sold in Brazil, I consider myself a regular at coffee shops and I have never seen it here. It is a kind of sweet bread, soft and slightly moist, very tasty!

Medialuna: impossible to eat just one!

The space has other rooms, besides the one where coffee is served, they have various uses, such as housing cultural exhibitions, and even a tango room. In a corner, an old cabinet keeps records of photos from the past, and of personalities who have been there. It's worth knowing the history!

The story is told: with architecture, with furniture, and in photos!

We found in its portico:

From a rainbow bar I greet you
Ahito de café y melancholia

"This, like others, was the café from where Fernandez Moreno gave us his verses of Amor de Luz y de Agua."

El Caminito: a must-see for all ages!

We finally arrived. El Caminito provided us with some great moments again, this time without the crowds of tourists! We took the opportunity to slowly visit all the shops hidden in the narrow side paths. And there are several...

Small hidden accesses that reveal beautiful places!

In fact, when it comes to commerce, many items are repeated. So don't rush.in buying something right away, because it will reappear many times in different stores, with different prices and with very volatile exchange rates!

Street art: some require a small payment to be photographed!

We don't think it's worth paying to watch a Tango show in an elaborate and expensive place. We prefer to watch a live tango at El Caminito, while enjoying our lunch. Without paying extra for it!

Also, access to the dancers, who are very polite and helpful. We congratulate you on your incredible art!

Free live Tango show for customers who are consuming on site!

Finally, a few blocks walking and we arrived at La Bombonera, the affectionate name of the Alberto José Armando Stadium, which is the stadium of Club Atlético Boca Juniors.

La Bombonera: Argentine passion!

Unfortunately, the club does not allow access to the pitch, so our visit was limited to the museum and taking photos outside. Still, for fans, it's worth it!

Summary of the day:

  • We woke up in Buenos Aires

  • We slept in Buenos Aires

  • Tours: Cafe Tortoni, El Caminito, La Bombonera.

Vale a pena conhecer a história!

Resumo do dia:

  • Acordamos em Buenos Aires

  • Dormimos em Buenos Aires

  • Passeios: Cafe Tortoni, El Caminito, La Bombonera.
