BuddyBear No. 10 – The Seated Football Fan at Europaplatz

Right in the heart of Berlin’s Europaplatz, just outside the Irish Pub across from the central train station, he sits: my tenth BuddyBear. And this one’s a first – it’s the only bear in my collection so far that is sitting instead of standing.

With a cheeky grin, raised hand, and a colorful football jersey, this bear is a true crowd-pleaser. The painted scene on his chest features an energetic soccer match, clearly a tribute to Germany’s love for the beautiful game. The artist remains unnamed, but the design speaks volumes – fun, vibrant, and unmistakably Berlin.

The location couldn’t be more fitting: surrounded by international tourists, rushing travelers with luggage, and locals sipping beer at the pub, this BuddyBear has no trouble standing (or sitting!) out. Despite his more relaxed posture, he commands attention – maybe it’s his fan spirit, maybe it’s just Berlin charm.

This brings my collection to ten unique bears – each with its own story, style, and presence. And I’m far from done. Berlin still has many BuddyBears out there, and I’m determined to find them all.

BuddyBär No. 10 – Der sitzende Fußballfan vom Europaplatz

Mitten auf dem Europaplatz in Berlin, direkt beim Irish Pub gegenüber dem Hauptbahnhof, sitzt er: mein zehnter BuddyBär. Und dieser hier ist tatsächlich eine Premiere – der erste Bär in meiner Sammlung, der nicht steht, sondern sitzt.

In sportlicher Pose begrüßt er die Vorbeilaufenden mit einem breiten Grinsen, gehobener Hand und einem bunten Trikot, das sich ganz dem Fußball verschrieben hat. Die bemalte Brust zeigt eine Szene voller Bewegung und Spielfreude – offensichtlich ein Tribut an die deutsche Fußballleidenschaft. Die Künstler*in hat sich hier nicht namentlich verewigt, aber das Ergebnis spricht für sich: ein echter Hingucker für Fans und Sammler gleichermaßen.

Der Standort ist gut gewählt: Zwischen internationalen Tourist:innen, Eilige mit Rollkoffern und Biertrinkern auf Pubbänken fällt dieser BuddyBär sofort ins Auge. Trotz seiner sitzenden Haltung hat er Präsenz, ja fast etwas Majestätisches – oder vielleicht ist es einfach nur der selbstbewusste Fußballfan in ihm.

Mit diesem Bären wächst meine Sammlung auf zehn – jeder einzelne mit eigenem Charakter, Ausdruck und Hintergrund. Und doch ist der Reiz ungebrochen. Ich bleibe weiter auf Spurensuche in Berlin, immer auf der Jagd nach dem nächsten BuddyBear-Moment.
