After our beautiful Wednesday Walk at my Alma Mater, I decided to bring the kids to another spot in Taal where I spent a lot of time in as a kid -- the Taal Park. We have not had the chance to really go out and visit places, but Taal is just nearby so why not? My dad dropped us here when he went to the wake of his cousin's son not too far away.
We decided to go early before it got too hot. I was not sure if the kids would like it (they have a bias for Abu Dhabi parks and playgrounds, LOL) but hey, you gotta make do with what you have, eh?
They played on the see-saw a lot and even the slides. Hmmm... so while they're at it, the mommy had to take photos. XD
There were also some people who come here just to take pictures. Just on top of the park is the Taal Basilica, the largest Catholic Church in the Philippines and in Asia. I was amazed when I saw a kid vendor who was "directing" a couple on how to take beautiful shots. Perhaps, due to the large number of tourists who come here, they learned that this "skill" could give them better chances to earn some money (tips) from the tourists they help.
The park has had a makeover throughout the years but it still kept the historical facade. The Heritage Town of Taal is the home to many well-kept historical homes from the Spanish Era, like those of Don Gregorio Agoncillo, a supporter of the Philippine Revolution and Doña Marcella Agoncillo, famous for making the Philippine Flag.
The amenities are not that new but it was enough to keep the kids busy.
There are also lots of big trees that can give shade to the park and keep it cool for the people who come and decide to spend some time around.
Taal Park is just by the main road, which as you can see is not too big - just a two-lane street. Across the park is the municipal hall and a bit farther down is the Taal Market.
After some time, I got a call from my dad telling that he was coming back to fetch us. A little time spent at Taal Park, I couldn't help but feel a rush of nostalgia and contentment. Seeing my kids enjoy the same park I frequented during my childhood was a heartwarming experience. Taal Park might not boast the grandeur of some international playgrounds, but it carries a charm that is uniquely its own. Its historical significance intertwined with the joy it brings to families and tourists alike truly makes it a gem in the heart of Taal. As we headed back home, I realized that cherished memories don't always require extravagant settings – sometimes, all it takes is a simple park and the laughter of children.
