The Resilient Civilian || ZapFic50!

(edited)

I remember experiencing my first protest during the covid and understanding both the pro and cons of participating in one when you live in a country that is being run by a carefree government whose aim is to keep you stagnant while diverting all the resources meant for the collective growth of the masses. But even more, I recall that many parents shielded their children from going out there for valid reasons. All of these led me into writing a simple microfiction for this week.

Prompt: Civilians

For days, my mother pleaded that I stay home and not join the civilians protesting on the streets of Lagos.
She feared losing me to an oppressive government. But my mind was made up.
I was going to demand change without letting the thoughts of harm get in the way.

This post is a response to the ZapFic50 contest, where we're expected to test our creativity by writing a story in precisely 50 words. If you'd like to write with us, you can start by reading the rules for entry here.
