Rachel was having one of those days again. Nothing was going the way she wanted no matter how hard she tried. Her alarm malfunctioned and ended up sleeping in an hour extra. Luckily, her internal clock was somewhat functional and was able to wake up herself.
While feeling more rested than usual she looked at her phone and then it dawned on her. Her alarm clock was not working as it should. The worst is running around the house when you know you're late. Cram down a quick breakfast, brush your teeth, shower are among the million of other little things we all do to get moving in the mornings.
She arrived at work and passed through the entrance as the receptionist motioned her finger at her own watch with a big grin on her face. What can you do? This isn't her day.
The big client was already waiting in her office and the look on their face wasn't that of acceptance. She apologized profusely and began her pitch. The session lasted half an hour and everything else went off without issue but she's not sure if this was enough for the client based on their body language.
When meting up with her friend Roxie after work Rachel was telling her about this day with a look of disappointment on her face regarding the meeting. Rachel feels like she needed to do more to win over the client.
Seeing her opening Roxie comes up with a real zinger.
Why are math books so sad? They have so many problems to solve.
Rachel groans and a smile starts to emerge. Roxie did it, she found the weak spot of her armor and brought out the elusive smile for this day.

Don't we all want a friend like Roxie, to put a smile on our face when life's issues come knocking on the door. Lovely short story! Well done. 🙂
She's quite the character and always has perfect timing in these cases. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it.
