1930 Freewrite Prompt: they found work

Thank goodness they found work, Betsy thought to herself, as idle hands are the d'evil's workshop, she went on in her head, musing on her own spelling of devil. She liked following the d with an apostrophe since d' means 'of', and Betsy thought it fitting that the devil was of evil and it was exactly what he's called.

Her son Cole, and two of his friends had been walking about town making minor mischief, which, she knew, if left unchecked could turn into major problems she wanted desperately to avoid.

But how to get the mid teen boys to listen to her when their eyes and ears had been bent towards the words, deeds and images of growing evil the new so called 'pop' 'cult'ure was promulgating. (Apostrophes were like magic Betsy laughed to herself, even if she was using them incorrectly.)

Ever since the sixties, if not earlier, Betsy saw that the youth had been coerced into "rebelling" against their parents; and against the government at large, (as if the govenment was the problem rather than some factions within the government being the culpable ones - but that's another story...).

Divide and conquer, d'evil's favorite tactic. Ridicule and break up the family and now the kids can be raised by the streets, Betsy knew, because that's what happened to her. Nowadays she prayed for her son and continued in her quest to find ways to save him, and his friends, from succumbing to d'evil's plot to ruin people starting with children.

Some folks she knew who agreed with her didn't allow their children to watch T.V., (tell-a-lie-vision), or get onto the internet. They didn't even allow sleep overs at other kids houses...but Betsy knew fondly that laughing all night with your friends is one of the best memories a youngster could have.

Not having much screen time she agreed with but since Betsy had tended to be controlling, (in an effort to keep away from the painful chaos she had known most of her life) she had softened her stance knowing that balance in all things is where harmony is most often found.

She knew the kids didn't really want to work. Why should they? On her own Betsy couldn't inspire a young boy to reach for the stars. She was working and cleaning and cooking most of the time...hardly inspirational, (yet of vital import!). She wanted the kids to be capable, and to have good strong ethics...and to know how to cook and clean for themselves)...

But this was different. The kids had found work they could enjoy. They were going to get paid to start a group for youth on a crypto blockchain. At first they weren't going to make a lot of money, but they could essentially run the group how they wanted, and invite their friends, even if they lived far away. Maybe down the road they might make some money.

And who told you about this opportunity, Betsy asked her son at dinner that evening. Sebby, he said. Sebby has a friend from when he visited Hawaii who told him about it. Sebby said his uncle was going to help them get set up and started.

We still have to figure out how to do it but writing and doing art for money is awesome. Plus meeting kids from around the world that maybe I could visit some day, he added.

While he spoke inbetween mauing down on the ceviche' he had helped her make for supper, Betsy was breathing a sigh of relief. There's nothing a mother wants more for her son than to be happy, healthy and successful in everything he does...(and hopefully fall in love and start a family of his own soon, she smiled)...
