Engaged, a word with multiple meaning. Despite that, many of it has to do with emotional feeling and mental wellness. Being engage to your other half is one such, being engaged in your workplace would means your are happy and probably satisfied with various aspects in your workplace, and that would help boast your productivity which would in turn benefits the organization.
With this link established, it's no wonder why we have seeing more of such engagement surveys and index being conducted in the workplace. If taken seriously, it would be a meaningful number to be measured and senior leadership can then take steps and concrete action to improve the score if it's bad or keep doing what has been done correctly to maintain that edge. There has to be changes somewhere along the chain for a different outcome.
Employee too would be provided with a channel to voice out their thought, feelings and suggestions to help the organization improve to do better. We can expect to get question of when is the next engagement survey, it can carry different meanings when someone check for the next engagement. Leaders should spend time to understand more and not simply brushing it off
