Good morning all, doing my 5 minutes free writing with prompt - Row Faster ! Hope you enjoy the story.
Standing in front of their teammate's final resting place, it's been 10 years since the capsize took place in the foreign land.
Annually, the national dragonboat rowers would gather to remember their fallen members and remind themselves to row harder and faster every stroke they take.
It was a normal competition where being the top seed, they are expected to win effortlessly as the reigning champion. But as the team were determine for the win, they decided to go against the national team's protocol of wearing life jacket to reduce weight so they can row faster.
This prove to be a bad decision as mid way through the race, their dragonboat was hit with unexpected strong wave and capsizes, several team members were covered under the boat.
Rescue effort begin immediately, from organizers to other team, despite their best effort, 4 members were unaccounted for and all were found dead 2-3 days later within a 5km radius of the coast where the capsize took place.
Among them was poh, who has a bright future ahead of him, he just graduated from a top university and secured a job. All ready to kick start his career right after this competition as he row his last race in the shirt bearing his nation's flag.
Unfortunately, all these stop at the race, had they been able to row faster, we wondered how would poh do today?
