Anyone who plays competitive sports will be no stranger to the referee, an individual or a group of individuals tasked with the important role of enforcing the rules of the game, maintain discipline while the game is in play and to remain neutral and impartial to both sides of competitors.

Before the implantation of various technologies to cover the blind spots of the referee who is human after all, the results of games can sometimes goes down to one or two controversial decisions made by the referee or umpire as they were called in certain discipline. Like in soccer, should a penalty be awarded or is the ball deemed in or out that affects a point. Being the highest authority on court, their decision are not challenged and very rarely do they changes their decision to shows they know the rules well and to command respect from players else every decision will be challenged.

But as technology evolves, now players have avenues to challenge decision like VAR in soccer and hawk eye in badminton and tennis and that decision is final.

It leads me to think, would there be an era where we deploy a few robots on court to referee a game and reduce the human touch of such games. What do my readers think?
