"Mrs Johnson, this is not in my jurisdiction" reply the headmaster of the school when the Johnsons feedback about school bullying of their daughter Lisa.
The Johnsons were visibly upset with the reply, when the headmaster simply push the responsibility away claiming non jurisdiction as the reported incident took place outside school campus in the neighborhood.
"Aren't they wearing the school uniform?" Question the Johnsons. " Or do we need the police involved to resolve this" they were furious and determine to get an answer.
Jurisdiction is common word to hear in the legal fraternity that refers to the legal authority of the court to interpret the law and to arrive at a ruling. So to determine this, the location of the presume issue occurring and also some issues may involve how the constitution of the country is written.
One common known example is a crime takes place on a cruise ship which is sailing in open water when the cime occurred. Then only the country where the cruise ship is registered in has jurisdiction to investigate and eventually prosecute if needed.
Thus, at times not my jurisdiction can be a helpless but true obstacle.
